What is the best way to store/organize photos and videos? Do you have a folder hierarchy of your stuff? Do you use external harddrives or the cloud storage?
Thinking about getting pic related but I'm not too tech savvy.

enjoy your corrupted, ransomed and NSA indexed files.

my suggestion is using a computer with high storage capacity as your main component for editing and file transfer of
your photos. then using at least two external hard drives for backup or a raid set up. Id stay away from could storage.

I use lightroom to catalog everything. It divides pictures up into folders based on year and then date.
It is then backed up to another internal HDD, and automatically uploaded to the cloud.
I also make monthly backups for a drive stored offsite.
These are pretty flexible. You can also get them in 2, 5 and 8 bay versions. Or with RAID instead of plain old usb3

I use two external drives on USB. Only switch them on when I need them.

I use a double gbe attached NAS with a 24TB raid 6, working directly on it is absolutely fast enough with raw files, feels just like local storage
that whole thing backups all the important files to another machine's external drives automatically via rsync every week

why stay away for cloud storage? unless you save CP or Jihadist videos, it's pretty safe.

from* cloud storage
I use an internal SSD for my main Lightroom catalog.
Twice a week I backup to an internal mechanical RAID set.
Once a week I backup to an external HDD that I rotate with another drive I store securely in my locked drawer at my desk @ work (you could also use a family members house or a friend).
Never trust RAID to be your only form of storage/backup. RAID controllers fail too, always have some kind of external backup solution.
I also have an Amazon prime account with the unlimited storage option to backup my backups. I don't do it often, as I am set in my local ways. But they do find their way up on the Amazon cloud about once a month.

>cloud storage
>costs money
>no tangibility of your files
>entrusting your files to a third party
>must have internet connection to access files
I personally like control over how my files are stored, to know i have physical backups and how and where i store my files, physical drives, etc... is pretty much everything to me.
cloud storage isn't bad its just another alternative, besides external hard drives are cheap nowadays so why not invest in one
