The pics without people are pretty, I'm not sure what people add composition-wise. Maybe if they were in a different position? I don't know
>>3041730
see thats what i kinda thought, but i gave it a go anyways, people usually sperg out if i dont have a person in my landscape shots, like thats the only thing that makes a landscape shot worth looking at
>>3041735
'Sperged if you do, 'sperged if you dont.
>>3041735
I agree with the other anon. People don't add anything unless they are interacting with the environment in a meaningful way. Even then I like landscapes with evidence of humanity but without actual people there. Those are more impactful to me, personally.
>>3041763
me too, but i guess it's because i just dont like people
here is one I took on thursday

This is good. The rest is your usual oversaturated junk.
>>3042566
yeha i really seem to go overboard with the saturation, i guess im a sucker for "rich" colors, that or im taking too many notes from our lord and saturator Ken
>>3042618
thanks man, its been a shitty year for shots, what with me being going for work in utah, and basically all over wyoming, i havent had time to go out and get shit, plus, these shots were all from my home town (as were 95% of every shot youve seen from me ever) and im kidna just trying to milk the location for any last good spots to shoot in, my next goal is in Meeteetse or in Casper mountain
>>3043125
i would dial it back a tad. the colors in your photos are what people talk about when they say they don't like digital.
i will say that the photo i linked to is supremely excellent and has several ideas that you should explore in the future.
>>3043141
hey well thanks man, i always invite/appreciate constructive criticism, i htink another problem of mine is once i take my shots i get right to my computer, put on music, and stare at my screen nonstop till the work is done (which ends up being like 4-6 hours for about 6 of the 50+ pics i take to edit) so i think i need to take a break for my eyes, and come back to them and see if theyre too saturated or not
id like to do more of the stuff i did like pic related, but i know there is already a patrick joust, todd hido, etc. etc. and since im in wyoming, i like to think i can put my own twist on the nightscape thing, but being a original is tough as shit for anybody

Well, I'll tell you what I like about that other photo as compared to this one. this photo, as you noted, is basically just a todd hido jam. it's interesting and noteworthy for being a portrait of a rural-ass trump trove, but it's also a scene that is mundane and familiar and not necessarily all that difficult outside of 1) don't move your camera too much and 2) don't blow the highlights.
Meanwhile, I think the photo that I like is much more engaging. It's literally off the beaten path, literally and figuratively. It takes the sense of detachment you create and explores it. The lighting is otherworldly and gives the scene a surreal feeling to it. The light from your car's headlights skittering along the camera's axis gives lots of relief and texture to the ground, and it's an effect you can only see at night and with this light, which instantly elevates the photo. There's a lot of other incidental light that is interesting. The red glow of the taillights on the interstate becomes this otherworldly glow under the bridge. I assume the lighting on the berm is from cars passing by, but it's still interesting for not having an obvious, apparent source. The whole scene is familiar, but also strange, and I think it uses Wyoming's sense of desolation to its advantage. I also live in a very empty Western state, and I urge you to explore the vastness around you.

ah man you took the words out of my head, i really appreciate the feedback. thats exactly why im so hooked on shooting here in wyoming, its mostly rolling hills of wind and grass, with mountains in the distance, not the yellowstone everyone thinks it is. its got such an alien and desolate feel here that every "yellowstone/wyoming" photographer has missed since day one
my only problems are that my only source of lights is my headlights to my toyota, and i cant take that everywhere (as much as a i get stuck trying) my Ricoh aint no 70D or god forbid an a7s. so my biggest advantage is to use street lights in the distance as backing and flood lights.
Pic related is for another point. 1) this scene was deep in winter, obviously, and no lights are used except for the moon and the light bounced off of the snow 2) its extremely difficult to find time to shoot in winter cause of the rapey temps we get here (the first week of jan. had a high of -6)
i do have a few good places that are sort of a treasure trove of good shots waiting to happen, i just gotta wait for time to get there

You should try film. It requires the patience of a saint at night, but you get the creamiest, cleanest exposures you've ever seen. I think it would suit your style well.

Are those stars or dust?
Took this yesterday morning about an hour before sunrise, wanted to capture the galactic center. I bumped up the saturation a tad and I know the tint is a little high, is this a problem? I like how it looks, I only started landscape and astro shots 5 months back.

>exposure stacking
newfag here, I looked it up, why would someone do that? it looks like smudging everything in the landscape for the sake of adding a bit of exposure to starlight. I don't even understand how anyone can naturally stack stars since the earth always moves, wouldn't the alignment force the ground to look like it's moving under your feet?
When I edited that photo I had to drop the exposure down to about -1 (screenshot related) because it was too bright. This is a different photo, but same location with the same settings, I edited the other one on a different computer. I play around with the sliders until I get something that is aesthetically pleasing to me, I have to crank the whites up to absurd levels because my state has heavy light pollution wherever I go, it makes the sky look unnaturally blue. If I face east like in the first shot I get NYC's light pollution in the distance, face west like this shot I get Philadelphia.
I would appreciate any feedback, I want to improve this, I expect to do a lot of photoshoots in significantly darker areas in a few months, I'm just doing practice runs for now. I'm a complete noob with Photoshop, I'm too dependent on Lightroom. I understand when I do astrophotography including portraits I'm probably going to have to resort to exposure stacking anyways since I can't expect anyone to look natural for 15 seconds.
>>3045862
It's shaky because you tried 15 seconds w/o a tripod, no one does that an expects the picture to look good, doesn't matter what the weather is.
>>3046066
You can stack the sky images and mask the forground in all but 1 of the shots. Therefore reducing noise and sharpening stars without giving a blurry anything.
>>3046130
I'm going to have to try that next time I have a moonless clear night, thanks for the tip.

Is it in perpetual blue hour during the night if you face north? As a night photographer I'd hate that, great pic.
>>3046147
So right now there has been a lot of solar activity this month, So any picture I take that is not directly south you can see the aurora, even on nights like this picture, where the aurora was rated at a 2 (0 being lowest 9 being highest) and Falling about 100 mines north of where I was.
But where I live in south central AK tonight will get about 5 hours of "Night" darkness, and on April 17th that will be less than 1 hour, then No more true darkness until Aug 25th.
Pic related, This is what a level 3 Aurora looks like directly over head.

Stop treating this like it was Facebook, no one owns a thread and these shots kept true to the "night photographs". If they want to share their own thread and keep it to them personally, that's what a personal social media platform is for. You can't expect other people not put their own shit into an image board meant for anonymity if someone keeps bumping content meant to be exclusive to them, that's not how it works here. >>3046227 >>3045862 shots aren't even astro related, why put them in an astro thread?
