Auto balance is dumb. The camera makes it automatic and if it's wrong you can always correct it afterwards
The course came and went. Shutter speed, aperture and ISO seemed to be enough witchcraft for the students.

Straight verticals and horizons.
Don't just point at things, frame the space something sits in and compose it properly. This includes people.
Most important area to be in focus if you have shallow dof.
Use a good flash when inside.
