Is this camera really as shitty as I think it is, or do I just suck ass at taking photos. I thought this would be a semi alright camera to get with basically no money, but nothing I shoot looks sharp.

Stop blaming the camera, why is the image looking sharp preventing it from being whatever it is that you want? Do you only want sharp images?

Good job murdering all the detail. Also up your shutter speed, 1/FL only cuts it on high resolution cameras when you're careful about it.

Why up the shutter speed? Just for movement or is it something else

>>
>>3038893
Movement for one, and your own motion for another. Yes, you can hand hold 1/FL, but you still have to be careful especially with 36 MP FF/24 MP APS-C. My auto-ISO is set to about 1/2FL, which works well.

You the slower the shutter speed, the more attention you have to pay to your holding and shutter technique.

I borrowed a Nikon D3200 to do some shooting and it's a perfectly fine camera. It's not as nice as a Sony a6000, but you can pick them up for almost half the price and it's a real great value if you're really tight on cash. I'll post a few snapshits from when I used it to demonstrate.

So yeah, not the greatest cheapie body in the world, but you can get some nice results depending on how you use it. All of those photos were taken at f/1.8 with the cheap Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 and still reasonably sharp. Ignore the grain in the first one, it was added to help preserve detail for being resized on Instagram.

Your kit lens is more sharp than the one I was shooting with at f/1.8, so you just gotta practice.
>>
>>3038813
Had the exact same camera and lens. I let my teacher who taught photography borrow my camera.

He took amazing landscape and street photography pictures. He did shoot a lot of black and white though. It's a decent low budget DSLR, just have fun with it.

I own a Canon 6D now though.

it's not the best camera in the world but it can get you good results if you know how to use it. You probably suck, but that's okay because having a cheaper camera will make you have to work harder to be better.

My phone has a good camera(LGG4) but even so my camera is way better. It handles noise in low light situations better, I can change the lenses on the camera, and in general puts me in a different mindset than when I use my phone. I don't regret it at all, it opened me up to getting better at photography. And eventually, I'll upgrade. But for now my camera is fine.
>>
>>3039739
Yeah it's same for me, I have pretty decent phone camera and when I don't have my DSLR with me, I just shoot with phone. I know I don't have so much control with it and it sucks at low light but after all it's going out and shooting is what matters.
>>
Op stop down to f2.8 or f4 and you'll be surprised at how much sharpness you'll get back

Looks like some haze, dust or fogging inside the lens doing shitty light cast on the sensor, it can also throw off the AF sensor. Try a different lens even if it is another kit lens then report back.

in my defense I'm not an actual beer drinker, I drink on very rare occasions and this one was one of them.

How do you find the lens? I've got a D5300 with just the 18-55mm kit lens, looking for something small and clean.
>>
This whole thread, albeit full of technically shit photos, are all done on a D7000 which I believe has the same sensor or the next one down as the D3200, I know the two cameras are not far apart in terms of technology. >>2975172

It's still not a bad rig. I'm soon making the move to FF and will keep my trusty D7000 as a lightweight DX sidearm. Cameras don't take pictures, photographers do, and if the camera is technically good but the guy holding it is absolute rubbish with it (exhibit A: my large format work, or lack thereof) the pictures will be trash too. Shit in, shit out.

tl;dr: git gud

old /p/haggot here, I can't believe you're still here.

Let's see your tumblr or whatever, sugar, I want to see what you've been up to the last few years.

Why is this out of focus? What are you doing that you're missing focus at f/5.6 on an object directly in front of you with literally nothing in focus?
