Has anyone here tried tintype photography, or making a Daguerreotype?
This is just a general old photography thread
Anybody know how much one would need to start this type of photography?

too general a question. studio or outdoors/mobile stuff? what camera/format? which technique? what country are you in? (chem/supply laws/availability/prices)
Here's a 8x11mm tintype to illustrate the relativity of that question.
On the topic: Anyone who does gum arabic/salt prints ITT?

Just a regular 4x5 tintypes in America. Indoors, but I can probably build a set up for outdoors myself.
Any beginner camera. With regular chemicals that are available online for like $30.
Tin type is pretty easy to get into. I've done 8x10 & 4x5. As long as you have a large format camera.
I've experimented with photogravure. It gives really delightfully velvety deep blacks.

I'd go to the film thread and try making that discussion there.
The lab that sells me chemicals also works as a club for people who like to do cyanotype and other ancient photographic processes (They sent me a limited cyanotype print last week to celebrate something idk). Cool shit.
