How do you plan for your photo trips, be it for a day trip or for a week?
Also, have you ever travelled alone to do photography? Less expenses, more freedom.
have you seriously done a multiday "photo trip"? that's extravagant as fuck, anon. I can barely find time to go shooting for a few hours in the evenings most days, much less take time off & get money together to travel around to shoot for days on end.
what sort of photos are you taking on these trips? just, like, travel photography?
I go on holidays where i spend 50% of the day taking photos. But i still call it a holiday, rather than a photography trip.
Planning? I don't plan. Just find somewhere interesting by searching google images, book a flight and leave. If i'm in somewhere like London or Tokyo I'll book a hotel, places like India I'll just wing it.

I'm more interested in landscape, especially at night, but had better luck with random snapshits. Probably because landscape requires so much dedication and I'm usually doing a day trip with friends or a vacation with family. I'd love to shoot the desert in the US or the skies and mountains in Nordic countries.
Now that I'm earning money, I could make one of these a reality real soon.

I'm pretty meticulous. When I did my trip from NYC to Detroit and back in December, I used google maps to plan my stops and even the general angle from which I would shoot. It was a big help. Currently planning a trip to the middle east and taking about two months to research it all so far. It's shaping up to be eighteen days of actual shooting days, excluding travel to and from the US. Four countries. Biggest issue was sorting out how to enter and exit Israel multiple times without having discrepancies in my passport.
I always try to travel alone, excluding local drivers and fixers.

Ever went somewhere that wasn't a tourist hot spot? Low population areas?
>>3017008
I've been to some rural Chinese villages and most Chinese cities only have a few tourists. I mostly do city breaks and rural stuff in my country now though because they're easier.
But I'd like to visit Myanmar this year.
>>3017006
how did you go NYC->DET? you go thru Ohio or thru Canada?
>>3016979
is that Edinburgh?
I took this in Phonsavan, Laos. I Lost most of my photos because my camera was stolen, so I only have the ones I managed to upload to a blog I was doing.
Fucked up the focus, but I still like it. The guys were in a field catching little birds with a net.

not op but it is, royal mile
>>3017024
>my camera was stolen,
how did this happen? if i were to go to asia id sleep and bath with my camera on.
I don't really plan trips just to be "photo trips", but any time I go on vacation I bring along a camera and usually take lots of photos. I've never traveled alone for vacation, but most trips are just with my girlfriend and I don't really mind dragging her to a good photo spot and making her wait around while I take my pictures.
I don't really plan things very carefully, I'll visit the must-see things and tourist traps but most of all I just like to wander around a lot. Don't load yourself down with a bunch of shit. I may bring a couple of different cameras and lenses on my trip with me, but every morning I pick a single big camera and a single lens to bring along that day and leave everything else at the hotel. Sometimes I might not bring a big camera at all and just have my GR stuffed in a jacket pocket.
All my photos from the first few days in a new place are 99% garbage, it's usually the last days when you've started to get to know the place a little better that you take better photos. I hate being rushed, it's not worth it to have a really packed itinerary where you force yourself to visit a bunch of different places all in a few days.
Where is that OP photo from? It reminds me of Edinburgh, but I don't think it is.

would you bring it with you on the streets as you touristed around? because it's pretty easy to take a razor blade to a camera strap & snatch the newly untethered cam as you split with your buddy down an alley on a little motorbike.
>>3017037
id bring it with me in my pocket, you snapshitting turbopleb.
>>3017036
it is edinburgh u dummy

I fell asleep on a bus and they took it out my bag. I thought about putting a lock on the bag but that would make it look like even more of a target wouldn't it?
On separate occasions I also got pick pocketed three times. Lost my phone once and my wallet twice. Not a big issue as I always had a money belt on me. A bit of cash in my wallet and a bit of cash in my day bag and my main travel bag. Its annoying, but I was never in trouble. Considering how much I earn in comparison to the locals I'm not even mad. I just see it as a tourist tax.

How the fuck did you guys figure that out. Are most of you /p/hags from Scotland?
>>3017052
I'm American, but there do seem to be a lot of anons in scotland and I'm pretty sure there was a /p/ meet there. I've just been there before and the royal mile is pretty recognizable. It's a nice place, you should visit.
>>3017048
>a tourist tax
or a tax on the stupid
>>3017048
>I fell asleep on a bus
oh, retard move.
youd get your bag stolen anywhere in the world if you pass out on the bus, not just for being a tourist, dumbo.
Disgusting.
Get out of my city and learn to expose.
>>3017052
I am. I don't know Edinburgh very well but I could tell it was Scotland.
>>3017115
W-well... it's too fucking cold there anyways.
Are you referring to the brightness? Any higher and the sky would be washed out.
Traveling alone is the only way to travel to shoot. Eat when you want (and more importantly, dont), sleep when you want, shit when you want, spend as much time on one shot as you want.
Traveling without a "goal" like getting good photos is hard enough on relationships without you 'literally ruining their holiday'
>>3016979
Day trips walking around forests and so on. Just nature photography. Cant afford expensive trips but its pretty cool to find intresting places on you own.
>>3017012
In 18 days I'm planning for 120 total photos in return. Planning to shoot approximately 600 total (50 rolls of 120) over the 18 days.
When I did NYC>Detroit, it was all America, mainly concentrating on rust belt and the shoreline. I shot 36 color 8x10 and 19 B+W. So 55 images total over 6 days? It was about 20 planned images and 15 planned locations and rest were as I drove along or multiples in one area. I came out with almost 28 usable images. In hindsight, I should've just done all color and digitally gone to B+W, it allows for more flexibility.
>>3017022
The trip itself was actually Cooperstown>Binghamton>Wilkes-Barre>Centralia>Erie>Ashtabula>Detroit>Cleveland>Pittsburgh>Breezewood> supposed to be Philly but I broke my ground glass so I went back to NYC without more images after Breezewood.
This was Wilkes-Barre, PA.

I think it just depends what your standards are. If you wanna take a little time and snap some nice photos of local architecture, scenery, wildlife etc. rather than lug your tripod around all day and spend ages on the same subject I'd imagine most people are probably fine with it (my gf certainly is and she's the only one I travel with).
>>3017380
Or just get a girlfriend who doesn't mind waiting for you to take your time.
Or travel with photo friends.

It's just mildly cold, it's more wet and humid. It's like a cold Florida.
>Are you referring to the brightness? Any higher and the sky would be washed out.
I'm referring to the overall dullness and underexposure. Learn to pull/push senpai.

always
Seriously though how do you get pickpocketed and your camera stolen 4 times? Get some situational awareness.
Traveling alone for photos is awesome. Everyone here should do it. Instead of that next fancy new entry level dslr, grab a cheap film cam and take a trip somewhere. You'll be better off in every way imaginable.

Edinburgh here. Instantly recognised it. 4chan is pretty popular here.
