Hello everyone, I just got this for my birthday. Could someone give me an introduction to what I'm in for? I don't really know where to start.

so you need a quick memedown on nikon?
>>3015969
Sure?
Imagine using a 10 year old cell phone. Now imagine using a 10 year old digital camera. Sure it works but why even?
>>3015976
Because it's a free camera. Both a new cell phone and a 10 year old cell phone can still make calls, a phone's primary function. This camera can still produce images, a camera's primary function.
Start by learning the basics of camera operation -- don't even take a photo in Auto Mode desu. Learn what shutter speed, aperture and ISO are, read up on the exposure triangle, try taking photos that are pleasing to you while also reading up on composition and what makes a great photograph. There is no one answer to that, but reading what others have to say about it can be very useful to beginners.
TL, dr: Learn to use your camera they way people had to use theirs 100 years ago, take lots of photos, read about photo crap
>>3015976
Because OP will learn how cameras and lenses work. May as well use a camera that now costs $10, in case he decides this isn't the right hobby.

I also have a Nikon. I can tell /p/ hates them. But I don't really understand why.
>>3017383
/p/ doesn't hate Nikon. D810 is a top 5 worldwide camera. Nikon just isn't enough of a meme like Sony and Fuji, you can't have your stupid mirrorless wars about them because they don't focus on the mirrorless market, so they're discussed less.
There is literally nothing wrong with Nikon and I got Paul Simon to back me up.
>>3015968
Cool camera, go out and shoot. Everything.
Also, read up on exposure triangle, read Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson, watch YT tutorials, watch post processing tutorials, don't believe anything connected with the names of Tony and Chelsea Northrup.
And have fun.
Later on get a 35mm prime, you will love it.
>>3017388
Paul Simon is overrated crap. There, I said it.
>>3017406
Graceland is one of the best albums ever made but other than that he's entirely forgettable.
>>3017403
>don't believe anything the Northrups say
Why though? I get that Tony tells people to buy his books like 5 times in each video and loves dxo to death, but you can still take away useful lessons from their videos, right?

D70 is one of the later model CCD sensor cameras, so expect brighter colors, especially reds and no rolling shutter. CCD is also good if you want to mod for infrared photos. https://www.lifepixel.com/tutorials/infrared-diy-tutorials/nikon-d70-d70s
D70 has a great feature that not many other can boast: you can sync flash much higher shutterspeeds than normal. At least to 1:1000s. I don't know why that is, but there you go. It's not a bad camera at all. Enjoy!
Nice lens, old camera, not saying its bad of course, just a classic in my books.

P fucking loved Nikon 2 years ago. It was the only brand a real photographer would use. Of course they were top shit then. I still think they are, even if they aren't embracing every meme feature released by Sony on the spot. I can't afford the Nikon FF ecosystem, but if I could, I would.

I tested it and it went up to 1:8000.
Had to use duct take to cover other pins.
