these are a few photos from a recent trip i took up california. some people have asked me why i take 'edgy' photos that don't have people or '''nice backgrounds'''...some feedback would be nice.
thanks.

that's it for this set. if there's no artistic merit in any of these i think i might scrap photography as a hobby
thanks y'all
>>3009572
kind of like a dour, unimaginative, thoroughly uninteresting version of franco fontano
the flat look is best if there's something to distinguish all the hills from each other (light, texture, color). It doesn't need to smack you in the face with contrast, it can be subtle, but these just look drab.
you should work on your post process, these look like sooc middle gray crap
also that power line looks weird at the top, not sure if it's a focus issue or what but against the gray sky those kinds of technical problems are noticeable
the framing on the first 3 is OK though

>muh grimey urbex
no thanks
these just look like a flickr snaps dump from a bolder-than-usual tourist
>>3009585 is the only one with anything interesting going on (statement next to landscape) but it still looks like shit
>>3009587
don't quit faggot, if your photos suck your only option is to git gud. most people are shitty early on.
whats your gear

urbex stuff, not my area
>>3009586
you almost had a landscape worth something
Theres nothing wrong with "edgy" "person-less" photos, but these are in general boring. Your trip to CA shouldnt be this shit.
0/1

This is a shit colour grade, but you need to at least make an attempt at creating depth with tone.
You're not far off doing reasonable stuff. Keep doing it.

all i had for months was a phone to shoot with and i had to learn to take good pics by moving around and getting close
try that for a while maybe
forces you to be creative
learn basic rules like rules.of thirds
find interesting subjects to shoot, under proper lighting anything will do
>>3009792
also retouch photos cropping trying black and white and others
in this pic theres an interesting landscape shape you can focus on it by cropping

also alway shoot raw
>>3009936
In lightroom that was quick hue/saturation/luminosity change of mostly green, yellow and orrange. Plus adding contrast to specific areas to make them stand out more i.e. dead foliage in foreground.
The only thing I can say is what the more reasonable Anons said. Just keep working at it.
These to me look like a group of Hey! this looks like it would make a cool pic! (click) Don't be offended that I said that, because we all did it when we first started out.
While I hate the idea of the rules, they are useful when starting out to get your mind into thinking about composition. So I suggest you look up the rules such as thirds for a start. After you get them down, then they do not apply since you have learned basic composition.
Your photos are not total trash, they just look like you did not care much about what you were shooting.

Hm looks like I have to try harder then. I never paid much attention to rules because I thought they were too mechanical, but I guess I should try
