also, you should try your flash as a slave, and your in camera flash at 1/64 or 1/128 as a trigger to get some shadows

it's isn't. I actually dislike VSCO, but I must admit, it's tone curve can be helpful af. I don't like to apply pure VSCO setting to any of my photographs. But using his tone curves, you can have a pretty insight to what you image will look like at the result. It's mine workflow, but it's not utterly shit, because it works most of times, and of course sometimes I had to change some settings. That's my final argument.

VSCO can be helpful, but you need to know what are you doing and what are you planning to. I hope I helped OP.
