how do I into post processing? where do i even start, what are my priorities?

I'd say start shooting in RAW format. You could use free/paid software specifically for photography such as RawTherapee, Lightzone, or Lightroom (Paid or Torrented)

Make sure your editing makes the photograph recognizable straight from the camera, or you'll just over process it making it very ugly.
