I'm really bad at judging my own work, so just want to know if these are complete shit or not

1. Should I get a cheap film slr, like a pentax k1000?
2. Haven't done any post-processing, what programs would you recommend to start off with and tutorials etc.

I kinda like the idea of this one - the messy rocks on the ground vs the shredded clouds in the sky. If only the big cloudmass in the center would be slightly more disperesed, like the one towards the edges of the frame, it'd be pretty cool, I think.

I think you had a great opportunity for a good photo here. Maybe a slightly wider panorama encompassing the gate to the left, or something a bit tighter that follows the guy's viewpoint more.

Either way, on yhe current image you kinda cut him off in a bad spot. Either go for a wider perspective with him being in the center (whole), or go slightly lower & tighter to follow his gaze more?

I like the colorful japanese evening cityscapes as much as the next guy, but find they are not aleays the easiest to frame. this one makes me think I'd want to get a higher POV and just focus on the lights more, but ymmv.

I guess what bothers me is the dark backs of the people so close to the camera, they kind of cut off your journey/path into the deeper image.

I think the biggest issue is though that while you are in an intersting place, with an opportunity for good photos, is that those opportunities don't always realize themselves at just that moment when you are passing by yourself.

If you find something that you feel is really cool, try waiting around for a bit and and see if luck would chance you with an interesting opportunity, so the elements (in city eveningscapes, the people mostly) align themselves in such a way as to create an actually appealing/interesting image - something with a "story" or flow to the picture. Sometimes it might also just be good to make a mental note of the place and come back/try again another day.
