thanks man, all those suburb photos was from a pretty uninspired day, i agree they are not that great.. i dont get all the fuss with "nice light" though.. i usually prefer overcast daylight or harsh sunlight

i spent about an hour at that trainstation to get that one right.. really frustrated that i dont have the gear to do it justice though, im pushing my tripod over a three meter high fence trying to get this one right at 1/15to 1/8 s exposures.. also a camera capable of resolving the high rise buildings and the roads way off in the distance wouldve been nice.

I totally understand you. The golden hour is kind of a "meme" like the rule of thirds - it's not a bad idea to use but it kind of "assumes" you're trying to execute photography a certain way, or that you SHOULD execute photography a certain way.

The reason I say wait for the light is that you can get an entirely different scene depending not only on the time of day, but the amount of moisture in the air, time of year etc. And if you feel stuck with a scene and think to yourself, "this looks really promising, but I feel like it's missing something". Sometimes it's the light, sometimes it's a subject.

I've tried to go back and re-create or re-do some photos I'd taken years ago and a lot of the time I struggle with it because even just a minor difference in the weather or time of year can render the scene completely different, not withstanding the ever-changing nature of the urban environments you're shooting in.

That tree in right in the middle takes in too much attention for me. That tree and the building behind it make up the highest point of contrast in the whole photo, not to mention the triangular shape of the tree that draws attention. Not him but I think it's vaguely referring to the way you reject all the petapixel brand knowledge about what makes a "good" photo like light and composition. To me it's kinda like when folks gripe about "lack of character development" in a story. Its just something to complain about or comment on, from the perspective that things should always follow a certain formula.
