I've only driven by Slocum but it looks nice. If you're willing to drive a few hours, the PA grand canyon (and cherry springs nearby if you do astrophotography) is absolutely worth the trip, I'm going back to shoot 120 slides when it warms up. Closer by, I would walk the river by Pittston (not the West side). Cool cliffs and a monument to some mine accident from what I remember, in general a nice place.

i did some similar shooting at the racetrack in nola when i was home for the holidays and it was a real hoot... sitting around drinking, smoking, betting on the horses, shooting the shit with more experienced gamblers, maybe even taking a picture occasionally. and a couple of my photos actually look pretty good, though I've only just processed the film and haven't made any prints yet so i can't say for certain.
