What's your favorite subject to take picture of?
Mine is animals and wildlife, as it is an active game of cat and mouse to get a good photo out of them.
Insects are good too with a nice Macro lens.
What is your favorite and why?

>favorite subject
I honestly do not have a favorite at all. Don't know whether that's a good or a bad thing; I just find pretty much everything interesting in an even manner.
aurora and fog, because the exposures often surprise you.
you control the scene, but the random light makes it very thrilling.
also the conditions required are rare so you are very motivated to go out when they occur.
>>2998032
Well I think it's important to specialize or have a niche. Having one can give you a way to differentiate yourself from other photography generalists.
Not implying you HAVE to have one though. You do you. Just most people I meet do have one that they try and perfect like landscapers vs portraiture of people etc. Or surfers who shoot almost exclusively waves. There are different little techniques for each a generalist may not know unless they really dive in one direction, just due to spending more time photography that type of subject.
>>2998036
Thank you very much for the input, anon. I really appreciate that.
I mean, of course I do have moments where I think 'hm, that could become my favorite subject to shoot' but some time later I (always) find myself liking other subjects/situations just as much as I liked and favored the other subject before.
So in short - It's hard for me to decide between this and that. Have you never been in that particular position yourself?
>>2998039
Sure. It really just depends on what speaks to you. As wispy and cliche as that sounds. I just remember getting my first telephoto lens and spotting birds here and there while I went out hiking. It was extremely thrilling not only being out birdwatching but being able to share some of those magnificent sights with friends and family. Birds are my favorite as they are so dynamic and differ in shapes and colors, the way they fly etc etc.
Don't get me wrong I like doing a wide array of other subjects as well, but I have a bunch more tricks up my sleeve for nature photography as that is what I spend the most time doing/have the most equipment for.
It all depends what your other interests are and what you have a passion for in the world. Say skydiving or architecture, whatever. As people appreciate different things in the world and have a different view they can share with others who don't really think about your subject as they are too busy doing what they are doing. Or just being a sloth watching TV and shitposting all day.

I always have difficulty with fog and making it look like it has real volume. It usually just makes my pictures look a bit flat. Any tips?

I believe you mean either slower shutter speed, or longer exposure time.
Fucking pleb...
>>2998079
thanks for explaining in case anyone would be confused as to what was meant (lol)
>>2998085
If you want to wade through life being incorrect, go right ahead. Nobody will take your advice seriously.
Nobody should anyway, judging from that photo.
>>2998039
I could be wrong but you sound fairly new to photography, almost everyone will go through that phase of shooting anything and everything. With time you'll eventually find where your main interests are and stick to them, then further down the track you might branch off and try new things again.

Always open to suggestions.

Wildlife as well, mostly.
Here are my first 2 shots of the year... nothing special, but I've been busy.

like this one. reminds me of "stranger things"
how do you like the rx100? thinking about getting one of the newer ones but the lack of dials makes me think ill be in auto most of the time.
do you shoot it in manual?
your mum
>>2998697
Why would you say this, especially about the second?
You sound like you're biased tbqh
>>2998701
I'm just mad because I'm a talentless faggot who hates to see others do better than myself
>>2998225
thank you.
I only had the rx100 for a brief moment before I switched to a DSLR.
I was a newb back then so mostly shot auto, and was happy with it.
recently needed a compact again so I got the LX100 which has tons of dials, and I like it so far, though I'm not sure if I like it more than the rx100. both are great cameras.
I like strangers on the street or people at parties. Just people in general I think are very interesting to photograph.

Could you please post a couple more?
I always thought this too, but will never do it.
Architecture and Landscapes
Fell a bit for the street meme at first but realized that people are a pretty boring subject for me
