Here in chicago from December to March it gets down to 5-10F daily temperatures. I find my photographic output is next to nothing. How do you guys in cold climates do it? Even walking 5 minutes to the park is bone chilling and my camera will freak out.

Have been taking some work pictures (won't share, here's phone snapshit) around Syktyvkar a while ago. It was around -44C.
I put on thermal clothing and the warmest things I could find and it helped a lot. I also wore valenkis, lol.
Camera was alright to be honest but battery depletes in a moment comparing to standard situation.
>>2996188
I take noticeably fewer photos too. Been about -20C for the past few days, so I pretty much just take some snaps while commuting and around lunch. Film is pretty much out since we get so little sunlight, although pushing black and white to 1600 is somewhat doable.
Winter is good gearfag time though. And developing and scanning the film backlog.

Milwaukee here, fuckin Illinois bastard.
But seriously I wear a windbreaker under a thick sweater under a hiking jacket, thick gloves, face mask, boots, and 2 layers of pants.
I can't really tell if this is a worthwhile photo or not. I suck at composition, so I usually just get lucky or not lucky.
Anyway, I rarely use my camera-mounted flash but I think it worked really well with the snow.

just wear layers man, and keep those "hand warmer" packs in your pockets to give your fingers a rest from holding a cam. Also, to avoid your camera from fogging up, avoid breathing near your lens or itll fog and then freeze there.
if you want a more detailed answer, ask the same question to the nice folks at /out/ and theyll probably be happy to tell you
i understand your feels OP, Wyoming weather can really suck donkey boner sometimes, i took this at -13F, then ran the fuck back to my car to warm my piggies up

a tad too green tinted, but the texture you got is nice and crunchy m8

this is fucking cool, even though its a forgettable photo, im a sucker for creamy winter colors

thats actually a pretty neat shot, by keeping the background lit up as well, you captured a really cool textured shot that is crisp, a tad too complicated though, no subject for the eye to lay on
>electronics in your camera
Well, it will freak out
>how do you guys in cold climates do it
Layers, thermal clothing, also never expose your skin or introduce cold air into a layer. Put your gloves/hat on indoors and keep them on. If you must take your gloves off, do it indoors and after you have been there for a couple of minutes.

thanks for the comments friend. the conditions were terrible so all i was able to do was take a bunch of snapshits and hope they turned-out ok. it was snowing very heavily.
Also put your camera and accesories in a ziploc™ or similar before bringing it back inside. this limits the amount of air that can come into contact with the camera to only the air that's in the bag with it, meaning only a tiny tiny amount of air with a tiny tiny amount of moisture available to condense into water. it also helps the camera warm-up slowly so even less condensation will form.

I wouldn't do that without a Pentax anon
I actually went on my first winter trip yesterday shooting around town while it was snowing. I basically layered up and put on some winter boots. It isnt cold here, around 50°F. Here's a couple of my photos.

>tfw never seen snow
must suck for you guys this time of year.
Ohio here. It's supposed to get up to 50 Thursday but it'll probably be back to the 10s shortly after.
Layering is the trick.
Thick woolen socks, thin woolen base layers, wind proof shell over. If very cold, add another thick woolen sweater in the middle.
Avoid cotton.

>>2996022
Dress warm. Don't take something that has metal on the outside because it'll freeze to your fingers. It'll also suck the warmth right out of your hand. Tape a hand warmer to the bottom of the camera to keep it warm. Leave another one with your batteriesto keep them warm too.

Wool best fabric

Just bundle up, motherfucker.
I just use regular hiking boots, and wool socks. Jeans with sweat pants under them. Shirt, hoodie, jacket.
For my hands, I use thin gloves plus pic related over them (you can just stick one finger out if that's all you need).
I've had several DSLRs out in bitter cold, and the only issue has been sluggish LCDs, and only on older models.

>>3001406
Would be bretty gud if the clone job wasn't so obvious. protip, tilt your monitor a bit, you can see it instantly
>>3001447
I think that is tonal steps either from shitty jpeg conversion or from reduced DR from processing and/or overexposure
>>3001447
I didn't clone anything in that picture though, what exactly are you talking about?
>>3001456
It's because you made the image so small at 40 KB it loses a lot of information and there's a lot of pixellation artifacting.

That's not cloning desu
