Why didn't you remove any filters alltogether to have the ability to switch wavelegths at will with screw-on filters?
>>
Got my EL-Nikkor 135mm, my B&W 403. Covers 4x5. Gonna slap it on a copal 1 shutter and run around town taking UV shots. Just gotta' get to my PO box.

You need to put some glass instead anyway, It's designed to have filter and won't focus prorerly without. So, you need to use 2 glasses ( clear filter and infrared ones). It will be impossible to use viefinder with screwed IR, but you can still use LW.
I'd like to use optical finder and you can also use it with any lenses, including fish eye. Focus shift is usually not a big problem, especially shooting stopped down.

Pretty much all digital sensors can see IR, daylight and UV, so when they use them they have to filter all the IR and UV out. If you put filters on the lens to filter daylight and UV you're basically fighting the filter on the sensor. That's why it's better to take away the IR filter than add a filter that takes out daylight.

Nikon D70s converted with a 720nm filter. Set custom WB off the grass.
Exposure takes some chimping but since it's fully converted I can shoot handheld in sunshine (and there's no point in shooting if there's no sunshine)

I shoot jpg+raw because ACR doesn't let me set the WB cold enough on the raws to get the look you see here. I use the jpgs almost exclusively because of that.
The one with the horse has the blue and red channels reversed.

>>2996202
cool. did you also use a filter?

Same camera using an on-camera SB600 with an R72 filter taper over it.
I wouldn't say I'm exactly proud of this photo, but it's the closest I've come to it.

I'm contemplating getting a 720nm filter.

I aim to do most of it in b&w, so is 720nm the most allround "best" to go with?

Depends.
Some films are not sensitive to longer wavelengths at all so something like 900 nm would give you black frames. If you're shooting digital it might be different. I haven't really checked but I think digital sensors are sensitive to longer wavelengths than 720.
All in all I'd say 720 is a safe bet and a good all-rounder, though, yes.
Mine are all with 720nm filters.
>>
>>2997544
Oh I worded that wrong..! Convert to b&w, so I'm shooting digital.

Good to hear anyway.

I aim to get the haida glass filters.
