The gear threads are over filled and only give a general overview. So I want a thread if just camera comparisons. Not just the specs because anyone can Google those. It's even better to give input if you've used whatever camera people ask to compare.

I'll start
D7200 vs D5500
D7200 vs K-70

Will you use old AF lenses? Do you need the flip screen? That pretty much solves your problem with the D7xxx and D5xxx series.

Why do you care about meme brands? Get a nikon/canon or go mirrorless.
>>
>>2983375
I want to use the old lenses to save a few bucks. Also Pentax has some cheap primes and it's not fair to totally discredit it.
>>
So doing research on D7200 vs 7100 because those seem like the best budget options without going into Pentax. I'm still torn on it

7200
>higher native ISO
>Faster buffer
>improved AF
>performs worse in lower ISO than 7100

The main thing stopping me from getting the 7100 us the 6400 ISO cap and most of all, the banding. What do?
>>
>>2983392
>>2983398
Do you already have those lenses?

Do you know you can put pre-ai lenses into the D3xxx and D5xxx? You can not meter but you can still guess the exposure or see it on live view mode or histogram

Get a used D3300 and save for a full frame nikon
>>
>>2983402
I have no lenses and meehhh. The D3300 is so feature lacking that it's not worth it to me. Also I live in Wisconsin and it's winter so I need something that is weather resistant. That's why I ruled out the D5500, well that and the lack of AF motor. I dont want to but something that I'm going to outgrow in a year.

It's not like the D3300 is going to break with a little bit of snow or light rain and the D5500 isn't wheater proof it is just the D3300 body with a flip screen.

What features do you really need? Why do you need the AF motor? Do you have any particular old AF lens in mind? You have to consider the crop factor too.

>>2983430
I only have a D3300 Why would I need full frame when I can shoot medium format film and scan it?
>>
>>2983430
Not to mention you have access to the best feature the K-1 has on the entry level K-70, the pixel-shift resolution.
Also weather sealing is not a premium feature on Pentax and the Limited pancake primes are something worth salivating over.
>>
>>2983432
Well we have blizzards in Wisconsin and I want to buy older lenses because they're usually cheaper. Plus the D7xxx has top screen.

My Nikon D7000 was marked as safe after a blizzard. They can get through it
>>
>>2983398
get a dirt-cheap D7000 and use the money you saved on a flash

most lenses can't resolve 24 megapixels crammed into APS-C size anyway
>>
>>2983398
7100 ISO can be boosted higher than 6400 but you will not use it over the 6400 cap anyway, it is plenty high and you can extract crazy amount of detail from the shadows without nbanding up to +3 EV, +4-5 EV if you don't mind a bit more work in post.
My K-3 has the same sensor and it is going up to crazy ISO 51200 but I don't use it over 6400. The most challenging lighting was in a church and even then ISO 6400 delivered good photos at f/2.8. Other anon is right about the flash, I could've done a better job back then if I had one.
The D7100 is an excellent camera though a bit big and a bit noisy on the shutterCLACK for my tastes. My K-3 is so subtle, I shot a fox in the middle of a meadow and he only noticed me standing there after 5 minutes.
>>

>>2983561

See the things is i don't want to have to deal with banding like that. It makes no sense to get a camera with known issues. Unless theyve fixed it with more recent produced D7100s

>>
>>2984144

>>
>>2984065
That 16MP Toshiba sensor is some magical unicorn, same sensor in the K-5/K-5II series and the D7000. It should've been the standard instead of the worse performance 24 pickle shit we have today.
>>
How come pentax doesn't make any (modern) fast lenses?
>>
>>2984167
Pentax has just been bought out of an unhealthy relationship with Hoya who basically bled out the company.
Ricoh is doing a good job reviving them and I guess we can expect quite a few new lenses, fast primes amongst them. Currently the biggest help is from Tamron licensing their best zoom designs for the D-FA 15-35 and 24-70 with Ricoh did an excellent job with the new in-house designs on the D-FA 70-200/2.8 and 150-450 zooms.
I say hobby use is mostly covered by the Limited and Star primes with some of the Star series being Pro-level quality although starting to show their age on the new high resolution sensors (DA* 16-50/2.8 for starters)
The budget hobby range is covered pretty well with some of the lenses being very competitive with the Canon-Nikon-Sony equivalents.
Well, it isn't hard beating Sonys budget stuff, but you get the idea.

Nigga are you serious comparing a FF camera to an entry level one?

The only reason for wanting a cropped sensor is for shooting birds at a longer distance.

>portrait
>shallow depth of field

>landscape
>detail
>quality
>>
>>2985846
Some landscape photographers prefer crop sensor bodies because of the increased DoF at any given aperture. And besides wildlife, sports shooters benefit from the greater reach, obviously.
>>
>>2985853
Bullshit. Landscape benefits from larger than FF formats because of compression and liberal tolerance on diffraction (f/32 and smaller aperture)
Crop bodies benefits are compact lenses and overall lighter kit
>>
>>2985857
And crop is so good now that plenty of people shoot landscapes with them.
Times change, faggot.

Crop will never be as good as ff, they make the sensors out of the same sheets and photography is about how much light you can capture; bigger sensor = more light = better quality.

It's exactly the same as film, some 135 film prints great, but still pales in insignificance in comparison to medium format.

Not to mention the fact anything under a £1k lens won't out resolve a 24mp crop sensor, what kind of dumbass faggot would drop a grand on a lens for their crop babby body. And the only person to recommend such a thing would be some poor fag that has no viable way of getting full frame gear and they want to feel less shit about being a poorfag so have deluded themselves into believing their sub-par gear can play with the big boys.

Pro Sports & wildlife excluded.
