>What are Prime Lenses and how do they differ from Kit Lenses and other types of lenses in general?
only one focal length
>What are the advantages/disadvantages of using such lenses?
only one focal length, primes will be cheaper and have better sharpness/wider aperture
>How do Prime Lenses interact with cameras who have a cropped sensor and a full sensor?
exactly the same
>What to look for when buying a Prime Lens?
sharpness, size, cost, sealing, coating, autofocus or manual focus, aperture ring, filter compatability, as you would any other lens

So one could use a Prime Lens with a lower end DSLR as well as a high end one?
>What ARE prime lenses?
We just don't know. Maybe someday, science will provide an answer.
>>2978163
no you cant. why do you think theyre called PRIME lenses. because they only work on prime cameras
>>2978163
yes
you can even use some crop prime lenses on full frame but you'd have to double check if they can provide the full image circle on a larger sensor
>>2978171
I see. I suppose prime lenses are not cross compatible huh?
Different mount for different brands kinda thing?
>>2978173
wrong, fag
>>2978174
Nah, you need to use them on a more expensive DSLR.
Needs to be a prime camera, Full frame sensor or higher. Medium format works too but they only take medium format lenses. There's no such thing as APS-C primes, there's like almost none made for brands that matter.
>>2978171
>you can even use some crop prime lenses on full frame but you'd have to double check if they can provide the full image circle on a larger sensor
Even if they don't provide the full image circle, there are FF cameras that will just automatically crop to the equivalent APS-C image circle when you put on an APS-C lens unless that feature is turned off.
>>2978174
>Different mount for different brands kinda thing?
Always. Except with adapters.
>>2978152
>How do Prime Lenses interact with cameras who have a cropped sensor and a full sensor?
>exactly the same
Are you like mentally retarded?
The focal length increases by the factor of the sensor.
>What to look for when buying a Prime Lens?
Build quality, widest aperture size, cost.
Here is a BROtip: Old film camera prime lenses can be used on mirrorless cameras with an adapter. If you have a full frame camera you will get exactly the same focal length as the film camera.

Prime lenses are absolute shit, you should never buy them, they can't even zoom in or out
Prime lenses are a social construct.

Lel

You can have two of three, or a lot of all tree if you are willing to pay:
Wide aperture
Big zoom range
Sharp
By eliminating the zoom altogether you have an option to make a lens that has a wide aperture and is sharp, and for a decent price! The plastic fantastic is a good example.
>>2982053
Or you just buy the zoom and apply sharpening in post. Why would you have like 5 different lenses if you can buy one at a fraction of the price that does it all?
simple answer here: prime lens are not garbage and usable even they are cheap sometimes
Your dog likes prime lenses

Really? Like which cameras? Not that I'd really have any use for a feature like that, but it's still nice to know.
Speaking of lenses and full frame/crop cameras, Tony Northrup claims that often crop sensor lenses (used on a crop sensor body) will produce better results than using a full frame lens on a crop sensor body. True or BS?
