I'm flying to Europe in 5 days, prior to that I will be purchasing my first rig. I'm getting an a6000 with the kit lens, a sigma 60mm f/2.4, and a fujian 35mm.

I will be visiting a number of various locations, would this combo of lenses satisfy me enough, or would you recommend anything else? Also it's gonna be cold as fuck in Europe, would this affect the gear in anyway?
>>
where are you flyining?

it' s not cold as fuck in the most part of Europe, I don't think your gear will have have problems dealing with

what kind of photos do you usually do?
>>
>>2977835
Might be cold enough to affect battery life slightly.
>>
It sounds like he's new to cameras in general.

First off unless your main goal of the trip is photography I'd look at getting a more convenient setup of a decent wide to short tele walk-around lens. Switching lenses all the time is a major hassle when you're traveling and walking around all day. The little sacrifice in IQ is worth the convenience. Maybe one of the Sigma/Tamron 17-50 2.8 lenses.

If you insist on primes both of those seem like bad picks, the Sony camera is a crop sensor so 1.5x the equivalent. A 35mm becomes 52.5mm and 60mm into 90mm. 35mm is pretty night on crop for a travel lens, especially around small streets and alleys where you physically can't just back up. You'll probably want at least an 18mm in these situations.

Also keep in mind if you have a local photography store they may do lens rentals or there are also tons of lens rental sites where you can get a good lens for a week.
>>
>>2977844

Pretty tight* on crops

Also another concern with cold weather is condensation when you go back inside to a heated room.

Keep the camera in a bag and seal it up before going in (grab the SD card before obviously)

Sigma 60mm f/2.8 is really nice glass, especially considering its price, but more of a portrait / detail shot lens. Fujian's 35mm is small and cheap but not really sharp.

I'd mainly recommend a Sigma 30 f/1.4 and Samyang 12mm f/2 for your trip.

> Also it's gonna be cold as fuck in Europe, would this affect the gear in anyway?
Not really particularly badly.
>>
>>2977830
Easily the best camera ever made

Spending two months in Croatia, mostly in Zagreb, not quite sure really I'm just winging it. Will also be visiting Prague, Budapest, Italy etc, apparently it can get up to -20 in some parts. Not really stressing, apparently it averages around 0-2 degrees in Croatia, so I'll be fine. Another friend is in Italy right now shooting in Venice, weather looks fine just pretty dull lighting. In regards to what I plan on shooting: anything really. I might not get a chance to go to Europe for a long time after this so I wanted to make the most for my future portfolios etc. I aim to focus on mostly landscape, portrait, sport, and a lot of experimenting and so forth. My knowledge with lenses is still pretty minimal hence the thread.

I already know that the a6300 will be my next purchase after a year or so of playing around with the a6000

>I'm getting an a6000 with the kit lens

If you're talking about the 16-50 powerzoom please consider replacing it. It's nice and compact but that's about the only thing you got going for it. Plus, if you're bringing other lenses space doesn't really sound like an issue.

As for the lens, there's lots of corner shading and if you plan on taking architecture pictures prepare to fix a lot of barrel distortion. The consensus is it's purposely underengineered and relies heavily on in-camera correction to pick up the slack, Even after loading in lightroom there's visibly even more to fix.
>>
>>2977830
get a sigma 30mm f1.4 and 20mm f2.8 instead.
the fujian is junk and a waste of time.
the 60mm is a little long, 90mm equivalent, you might not like it. i would suggest going with the sony 50mm f1.8 oss for the stabilisation.

Maybe that's a bit too harsh? Pic related.

But I don't recommend it for travel either.

It's definitely weak on the borders of the frame, but the lens isn't really entirely useless.

This desu, depends on the region but for the most part anything south of the netherlands/belgium is fine.
>A friend in Poland told me it get's up to -20 in Budapest this time of year.
Your friend in Poland is brain damaged, you'd be brain damaged to believe him too. Look at where Hungary is on the map and think about it if you're not camping out in the hills and mountains.
Mainland Europe is pretty tame, The UK is pretty tame, Norway Sweden and Finland are a bit more extreme and some of north eastern Europe and russia. Otherwise it ain't shit really. No worse than North America. Unless your north of Denmark, you're gonna be A-ok. Keep your camera in your bag, let it raise to room temperature before bring it into a warm room/pub etc first. If you're really worried bring some silica gel.
>>2978290
That doesn't help your case in any way at all.
>>
>>2978102
Yeah, don't upgrade to the a6300, it's not worth it. It wouldn't even be worth it to upgrade to the a6500. I'd say either buy the a6000, and just wait a long time to upgrade, or buy the a6300. You might be able to get a good deal on it since the a6500 is coming out (or has already, haven't kept track) Not sure what your budget is, but you should check out getting a used a7 with a kit lens or something, that will last you longer, I think

Should get colder this winter.
>>
>>2978298
My comment stands entirely on it's own merits. Your comment stands atop a platform several times more autistic than mine. Your comment stands at least 2000m above sea level.

If you're not able to look at the land and sea level and work out what temperature a place is in relation to it's distance from the equator then I'm not sure how you have the ability to push the fucking shutter release on a camera and expose correctly without a lightmeter telling you what to do.
Either way, the goyim will be just fine unless he's throwing that shit in snow and only taking it out of his bag the very moment he returns from outside inside a non-humidity controlled room.
>>
>>2978297
get a6000 if poorfag and want something small and light.
get used a7 right now if you have extra cash for full frame.

1050m also was -10.4C yesterday. And it got far colder before.

Not that every place at that elevation is this cold at night right now, but plenty of places get quite cold somewhere in Europe or "south of the netherlands/belgium".

Sorry, I brought the a6300 with me.

As for the temperatures that everyone is arguing about. It is 26 degrees Celsius where I live today. So 4 degrees Celsius in the wind at Stone Henge is cold for me.

>>
>>2978352
Real talk. After lugging around a 5d, then a a6000 after that, I just use an rx100iii. Sometimes when I look at the 5d pictures I miss the detail and lack of noise but it's not enough of a difference to make me want to go back.
>>
You could go with a A6300 which is weather sealed then pair that with a weather sealed lens. Its quite a bit more but could give you peace of mind. good snapping
>>
>>2978352
That's a *lot* worse than using an A6000 in most situations. Even more when your phone happens not to already be a Samsung Galaxy S7 or such.

Just can't see it as problem to carry a very easy to carry 344g camera with a 265g+69g (>>2978222) or 265g+245g (>>2977874) lens kit when it gives you the ability to shoot much quicker & more reliably in far more lighting situations and then also crop a lot in post to get actually pretty images. Especially on a tourist / photo trip abroads.
>>
>>2978524
the kit lens is pretty junky at 16mm and 50mm.
gets to f5.6 at 35mm.
>>
>>2978595
It's pretty junky all around. All it's good for is helping the camera fit in a jacket pocket.
>>
>>2978595
Pretty much everyone was suggesting something else, starting from the OP.

But for the sake of argument: People are complaining a lot about that kit lens because it's even fairly bad as compared to some other kit zooms and hence very bad as compared to the native primes.
Not because their smartphone or P&S is better.

Did just that this summer but got the A6000 kit with both minolta 1.7/50 and 2.8/135
>>
I've decided that I'll be getting the kit with an additional sigma 19mm and 30mm f2.8
