I've been using my Nikon D3200 for 4 years now and I feel like it's about time to upgrade. How often do you people upgrade? Do you have a set cycle or just upgrade when you see something that tickles your fancy?
>>
When my camera breaks.
Been using the same body for 5 years now.
>>
Every few years usually. 4-5. Just like a computer. Unless you can budge an extra year or two for the computer. It's doable. Just consumer tier plebs don't know how to.

Camera wise. 4-5 years if life expectancy with usual wear.
>>
asap becouse i'm a gearfag but i'm also a poorfag so it's not very often
>>
>>2976442
I still mostly use Canon 5D mark 1 and most of my lenses are made in the 90s.
>>
When i can afford it so about two cameras a month i buy.
>>
>>2976442

i still a 1dsmkII dirt cheap, great viewfinder muh fullframe, i will another dirt cheap old pro body if she ever bites the dust. Iso 100 for life
>>
>>2976442
Went from 350D -> 7D -> 6D, got each shortly after they were released. Until something truly ground breaking comes out or my shit stops working, I'll be fine with my 6D.
>>

>How often do you people upgrade?

Maybe once in four years. Gotta be much more since I got my first DSLR.
>>
always when a opportunity shows, I rather buy used in good condition gear.
>>
I upgrade when the new shit does something I need that the old shit can't.

Stills bodies hold onto a bit of value, but video bodies have aged like milk in the last few years.
>>
>>2976442

Had my D90 for almost 8 years now. Been thinking I should upgrade, but I haven't used it very much in the last 2-3 years so I'm still happy with the quality.
>>
>>2976632

It's time for an upgrade, homie.

I guess. You don't even have to buy new. Buy used, fuck the man.

I'm just saying, I had a D300 (same sensor as D90, slightly older firmware) for about eight years before I bought a new (to me) camera, and the difference in quality was fucking astounding.
>>
Had my Canon 1000d since 2009. I just upgraded to a 80d. So every 7 years I guess

God fucking you idiots
Why do I even browse the web
>>
>>2976646

I just went back from a D610 to D700. You just need to find a camera that suits you better.
>>
>>2977084
Didn't want a used D800?
>>
>>2977085

I'll probably get one next year. I'll probably sell my D700, but idk if I must, D700 is just one the best cameras I've used.
>>
I got back into photography about two years ago. In that time, I've become a gearfag. I'm a hobbyist who does some photo competitions now and then for shits and giggles, I've made some dumb choices but I'm pretty certain that my gear is as current as it's going to get for digital/film. This is the timeline of my digipleb journey

>Canon EOS M (gone)
>Canon EOS M3 (gone)
>Fuji X-E1 (gone)
>Fuji X-T10 (almost gone)
>Fuji X-Pro 2 (crop babby AF tier main camera)
>Sony A7 (A light box I can mount stuff on)
>Fuji X70 (compact)

Did a simple upgrade to the M3 when it came out, the benefits of shedding this camera were too great to resist.
I'd started shooting film at the same time and had an FD body and a Yashica SLR too, I found the M3 to work against my style of shooting so I trialed an X-E1 and made the switch over based on ergonomics alone. Switched to the X-T10 when the cashback deals started simply for the better EVF and faster processing. I got the X-Pro 2 because muh hybrid viewfinder that I never use, and I get frustrated at it's shitty ISO dial. My X70 is just there to replace a film compact.
Got an A7 later on in the year when I shedded some gear so I could adapt my other lenses to it (however I hate it as a system ergonomically). It does almost everything I want it to.

I don't see me really needing more than what these sensors provide for the next few years, so I can't see me upgrading any of my digishit any time soon.
I also shoot a Bronica SQ-Ai, Mamiya 645, Yashica FX3, Hassy X-pan and AE-1 as my actual main cameras. There are no foreseeable upgrades in this line at all. They do everything they need to do and do it almost perfectly. I've even considered getting rid of the AE-1.I'm tapped out gear wise, but I would suggest that if you have done photography before and you're likely to stick to it, take that extra time to research what you want and go for the product that really fills your needs and not a compromise.
>>
>>2977086
Yeah I understand. I got a D810 a few months after it came out and I really haven't desired to use any other camera since then. The combination of technical image quality and build quality/ergonomics is just too good.
>>
>>2976442
Needs and money. I started off with a D3300 a year ago, but lately I've been getting into more specialised photography and needed a better camera, so I upgraded. Theres no point staying with an old camera unless its just a hobby or you aren't being limited.
>>
At this point, only when it makes econimic sense based on expected useful life and the used market.

If it has strong resale value now and might only last me ankther year or ao, I will sell and replace.

Basically, I don't need an upgrade ever. Cameras are good enough. I just want to minimize my cost per year of use.
>>
>>2977106

exactly! D8x0 and the D700 build is like a tank. In the same time I think 12mp is enough, I'm missing some mp. So, I'll need to work to get as close from the subject as possible.
D810 is like a dream in the moment, cannot afford even used, next year if everything goes right, an used D800 probably will come. But at this moment I'm more focused in a 50mm1.4G and some 300mm2.8ED (manual) or a 300mm4G, but lens are more important at this time..
>>
>>2976442
Well im thinking about upgrading to a a7 or a d7200.
>>
I literally am 100% content with what I have:

- XT-10 with 23 f1.4
- Canon AE-1 w/ nifty 50 and 28mm
- Also have an FD adapter for the Foojee

I'm considering getting the 35mm f2 for the XT-10 as well.

How much did you pay?
>>
I got a K100 in 2007. Upgraded to a K5 in 2013.

Probably will eventually get the K1 sometime in the future, because pixel shift and FF viewfinder would be nice to have.

That said, my K5 isn't that terrible of a camera that I'd feel a huge urge to go and spend 2k on a new body just to have the latest shebang. For me that 2k is for example better spent on traveling somewhere new and interesting to take photos with my existing camera(s).

I'll get the K1 eventually, but prolly not before it is nearing half of current retail prices - like I did with the K5.
