Fellow filmfag here. Today i realised im in serious need of a nice digi camera that isnt a DSLR (which i have), sort of portable, fixed focal length and nice colors. Up until today i had my old canon s90, but it just cant cut it anymore.
I dont think im able to get a x100s right now, what is a viable and cheaper option? Should i become a fujicuck? Should i fall instead for the foveon meme and get a Sigma Merrill DP2? What are other options? I dont like too much what the Ricoh cameras do colorwise, at least not for my work.

Colors are basically independent from the camera, especially when they're all using some variation of the same sony sensor. Don't buy into the memes. About the only camera I've seen that has truly unique and beautiful colors is the merrill dp2, but that's a slow, shitty camera that you will loathe to take anywhere besides your back yard.
So basically get whatever. :)

X100O (original) is dirt cheap now, get one.
>>2976122
>dirt cheap
Around $380+shipping used is not exactly dirt cheap :(
>>2976131
Considering what it use to cost, it's totally worth it.
>>2976134
Considering what OP has, though... No Sony memes, but I'd much rather get a NEX body with a pancake.
>>2976105

X100 series is really good, really good - BUT it's overpriced to shit. The X100F is coming next year, but it's going to be about £1000 easily.
I was on the cusp on buying a x100T, but something held me back. I got a XT-10 brand new body for £450 and the 23mm 1.4 lens used for £380. So for £830 I have a system with a better lens, overall equal in price to the x100t, and I can pick whatever lens I want in the future.
The x100 series is for people that already have an interchangeable system, I really love it - but it's just out of my price range. Still would consider it if I had the dosh.
>>2976105
why not m4/3?
>>2976105
Sony are bringing out an aps-c fixed lens (probably 23mm f1.8) ibis camera early next year. Like a mini rx1
>>2976105
>Sigma Merrill DP2?
I own and love a DP2. But the DP2 is not what you're looking for. It's fixed, it has nice colors. But it is NOT a general purpose point and shot.
>>2976105
Hey OP, what would be a good SLR camera ? Where should I buy it ?
>>2976653
i like my spotmatic. bought mine from an ebay auction, very cheap, mint condition (japan seller).
>>2976653
For taking great photos
Nikon f90, very affordable, awesome features and performance, works with all nikon lenses.
For being a hipster cunt
Oly om1/2/3/4, super compact, beautifully smooth action, fantastic lenses that are tiny and beautiful, super reliable, biggest viewfinder ever.
quick question /p/, x100s or x100t or wait the x100f to go >1000 €URObucks?
>>2976670
F90X*, dat cross type focus point. The line type in the F90 and F4 is dildos sometimes.
>>2976884
I'd wait my nigga
The 100T/S is old as fuck tech, lets be real here for a minute. You can save your shekels until the 100F arrives, so keep delivering them pizzas boi.
Also, if it's your only camera, consider waiting for the XT-20, that will be a ball-grabber.
>>2976476
cool shot mate, got any more?
>>2976945
>The 100T/S is old as fuck tech
couldn't be happier with my original x100 I bought this very summer. It's true the x100s is an improvement but IMHO it doesn't justify the extra 200-250 € they usually ask for
>>2976105
>Sigma Merrill DP2
if you like taking it up the ass, yes.
otherwise fuji x70, nikon coolpix a, sony a5100 + 20mm, eos m + 22mm
>>2979215
where the fuck did you find that
I also recently bought an original X100. Honestly the only things that show its age are the janky menu operations and the EVF being a bit laggy in low light. Coming from a D300 I'm blown away by its high ISO performance, and the AF isn't really bad as people make it out to be. It's also nice not having to deal with janky X-Trans raws; even using Fuji's converter I can get more foliage detail SOOC in jpeg with my X20.
Next purchase is a real leatherette from Aki-Asahi to replace the synthetic one.
>>2979373
>real leatherette
>with synthetic leatherette
I don't think you know what leatherette means. And I don't think you know why they use leatherette on cameras instead of leather.
>>2980647
because of price you fucking idiot, thats not a tricky part
Gm1 or gm5 and 14mm 2.5, wont get any smaller and that
>>2980653
No, a couple of little scraps of leather is all it takes to cover a camera. I doubt that every single camera manufacturer ever would use fake leather over real leather even on their most high-end cameras just to save a few pennies and not because the fake leather is actually better. Real leather requires continued care to keep it from cracking and falling apart. And the stuff they put on cameras is only mistakenly called leatherette, by the way. It's actually vulcanite rubber which (unlike leather) is grippy and durable and waterproof and doesn't soak up oil from your greasy fingers.
Pic related is a camera which is actually covered in real leather. It's made with real leather because durability was not a concern for a $50,000 fetish item which is never actually going to be taken out of its case and touched by ungloved fingers.
Fucking idiot.
>>2982274
>Real leather requires continued care to keep it from cracking and falling apart
Not if it's not in the weather.
>and doesn't soak up oil from your greasy fingers
and that's all the care most leather goods you don't work heavily will ever need besides the occasional cleaning.
From what I understand, they don't use real leather because of lesser finger adhesion (as you said) and because leather will seep acids over time that eat and corrode metals.
Just get a GR you faggot

you know exactly some ritch kid will buy this for 50k like its peanuts and take snapshits with it.

Enjoy taking photos in your moms basement then.
I love compacts.
Can't go wrong with X100 series. You might almost be better off picking up an Xt10 and small lens like the 23f2.
I will also shill the Panny LX100. Still use mine frequently, great camera.
Lastly, you can't really go wrong with the GR. Very solid, great IQ.

My friend got an x70 and I played with it for a few hours and it's really nice, good lens, great sensor id recommend it
Honestly don't listen to people who say a certain camera/brand/lens are memes, 99 percent of people on the Internet have never even touched the cameras they talk shit about and base their entire opinion off of spec sheets, go for a Fuji or a sigma camera and the only people who will talk shit about your camera are gearfags who don't even shoot
just get the x100f when it comes out 1st quartet next year. until then stop a faggot
>>2986794
>just get the x100f
x100 cheap as chips
>>2976122
I wholeheartedly agree, same lens as later versions but you get a pleasant 12mp sensor instead of the "High frequencies? What high frequencies?" 16mp X-trans they put in every camera after.
X100 is the only Fuji camera really recommendable. I like their lenses -especially the 23mm 1.4- but every X series body has multiple dealbreakers (Looking back at my old X-trans raws makes me ill, took way way fewer pictures that I've ever liked compared to .CR2 or .X3F)
Always DP2 Merrill, forever and ever.
Get it, you'll either be dislike it and sell it again / return it or you'll love it and never want another camera in the same category for the next 10/20 years.
>>2987457
i love the DP2 and i shill for it even when i dont even have one. but those colors and noise banding look schitt.
Get the sigma OP
(also yes I'm aware that the snow is yellow)

>and because leather will seep acids over time that eat and corrode metals.
That's only chrome tanned leather.
Veg tanned leather will not do this, and will last considerably longer too.
However, the trade off is that veg tanned is harder, longer to do, and at first isn't as soft as chrome/acid tanned leather.
Get some good veg tanned leather and it'll do grand with metals.
Tougher, though, and the kind that isn't tougher to start with is usually oily.
