So what's the catch with ultra budget lens like CCTV or Fujian. Obviously they're not going to match the latest and greatest, but given the prices are as low as £12 a lens surely it's a good alternative to the kit lens?

no it isnt.
>>2971057
>kit lens?
There is a number of different kit lenses including prime lenses. Which one did you mean?
Poor build quality
Poor durability (These are made to be set-and-forget on security cameras)
Poor resolution
Poor distortion
Poor chromatic abberations
Bad artifacts
Heavy lens flare
I would never in any situation choose one of these over a modern kit lens. I would consider one as an addition to a kit lens for low light, but only if I was dirt fucking poor. I would recommend one of those cheap MF lenses like from Mitakon instead, although still only as a low-light supplement to your kit lens.
I had a whole box of these things in the attic, so I got an adapter and found that every single one was shit. I never used them again.

I never got that far with my samples but I don't doubt it.

Sounds like a good alternative to the Sony Kitlenses

The image circle is intended for a much smaller sensor.
They can be kind of fun if you know what you're getting into, but they're not suitable as general purpose lenses for anything with a sensor larger than 2/3".

No, surely not. They're not even as sharp as typical kit lenses.
But it is a cheap effect lens. Pic is the bokeh from the newer Fujian f/1.6 on an APS-C.
Old Fujian is here: https://www.flickr.com/groups/2062341@N22/pool/with/29823755986/

That's not bokeh, that's a mess. It looks like the OOF areas were chewed and puked out again.
>>2971237
Puked out in a swirling circle of fairly round balls with not too extreme prism effects on their border. A type of bokeh a good number of people like.
It's too bad the foreground isn't really sharp enough, else I'd use this lens as a second portrait lens.
You can get decent old lenses for that price and adapt them. With the adapter it's more expensive obv, but not by much and they are an actual alternative.
Bought one for fun, can't get the damn thing to focus. And when I stop it down, it closes to a rectangular shape.
>>2971057
I own all of the Fujian Fried Rice lenses, including the more recent (and more expensive) APS-C versions.
The original non-APSC versions suck on my A7ii and if you live in AUS, I can give you them for free, if you can catch them when I peg them at you from a distance of 10m.
Check flickr's c-mount groups for pic examples.
Get a Soviet m39 lens instead. That's single dollors if you don't mind it smelling like ancient fox grease.
>>2971296
Sounds like you are using it on a DSLR? That won't work well in most cases.

>I own all of the Fujian Fried Rice lenses, including the more recent (and more expensive) APS-C versions.
APS-C versions? That exists? All I saw was CCTV C-Mount glass.
>>2971057
they are shit.
>>2971546
how its the quality of the APS-C versions?
>>2971657
Yes they exist in 24, 35 and 50mm.
A year ago they cost around $60 AUD each and I just checked ebay and it looks like they have Version 2 of the APS-C c-mount lenses (branded 'Cheecar') but cost around $90 AUD.
If you haven't already seen this review for the 1st gen APS-C's, check it out:
http://samgoldphotos.blogspot.com.au/2014/11/user-review-aps-c-25mm-f14.html
So c-mount options look like:
* m4/3 c-mount lenses (25/35/50mm)
* 1st gen APS-C c-mount lenses (25/35/50)
* 2nd gen APS-C c-mount lenses? (only seen 25/35)

I can see them being cool cheap toy lenses if you were looking for a psychedelic effect in low light.
