Old thread has died.
Post ITT if you want to discuss about CCD sensors in general, CCD vs CMOS or if you have any aesthetically pleasing CCD shots to share.
Questions and comparisons are very welcome.
-What makes a good CCD sensor?
-Which CCD is your favorite one?
-Can CMOS ever fully emulate the way a CCD renders its colors?

CMOS is CCD but with advanced design and fabrication technology.

CCD
>amazing image quality
>accurate pleasant colors
>smooth recording due to excellent image stabilization
CMOS
>fake and gay colors
>literally shaking
welp, that was an easy one.

but there are no ccds with xbox dynamic range or billion megapickle =(
How come CCDs have never been able to get past the video size limit of 720p?

well there is one...

I still miss my old mini DV Panasonic CCD camcorder. Such a natural way of processing colors and textures (as well as dv could, anyways) and handheld all day with NO ROLLING SHUTTER.

No

they can and do very well in small chips but going up to APSc or FF they run into cooling issues. large CCD video literally burns up the sensor.
ITT delusional, luddite idiots who apparently think that the readout electronics somehow dictate the colours in image and not the colour filter array atop the sensels. KYS yourselves.

photography's as much about the science and technology of recording light as it is about the artistry to doing the same. learn to appreciate both.

This. I love the way a CCD renders the colors. It's just, really unique and pleasing to the eye. Every CMOS-based camera I had/have tends to render oversaturated images with - often - too much contrast. My old Fuji X-Pro1 for example loved to crush blacks and bleed color even in standard RAW mode. The most natural-looking CMOS results I've seen so far are coming from the Sony a6000.

What's a reasonably priced ccd camcorder that can do 720p video? 1080p video?
