its 135 portra 400.. most of them overexposed one or two stops with a skylight filter.. the grain probably comes from me being lazy with the scanning -- not setting the exposure right, and correcting it in post for example.

i can totally see that. I try to keep my pp choices motivated, just not "it looks cool when i drag this slider". its easier said than done. My primary approach in colour tinting is ususally to use split toning to try to echo the most prominent midtone colour in the shadows, and add the complementary colour in the highlights.

the barn, the bus interior and the bus is film.. not much processing except for raising contrast and trying to get rid of the purple-red cast in the shadows -- either its my provisory scanning method, the skylight filter or the lab i delivered it to that is doing it. Im gonna do some trouble shooting to see where that problem lies..
im grateful if anyone got any other suggestions as to why i get those shadows..

youre probably right regarding the trees too, went sort of overboard with that one.

the cards is from when i was experimenting with getting sort-of desaturated unsettling/sort of nostalgic, digital colours. probably not the best example.

if you're asking why the colors are off on your raw film, it's because you haven't filtered for white balance. skylight filters have a magenta cast, don't they?

I have an olympus em5 with a couple of lenses. i usually use the 20mm 1.7, sometimes the 45mm for portraits.
I edit colours in lightroom, if im really lazy i slap a vsco preset on and tweak it to my liking. then export to photoshop for doing skin touch ups, masked colour corrections, add a border etc, sometimes i use a really subtle layer of gaussian blur on saturated or light emitting elements to create a sort of poor mans leica glow.. dunno if it is any noticeable difference, but im trying it out at least.
sometimes i add a luminosity sensitive layer of noise if i want that...


Film wise i got a pentax program A with the 50mm 1.7 A. for now, i scan the film with my olympus stuck in a cardboard box with an ipad as backlight with a translucent bag between to remove the pixels..

Neat photos but white borders always ruin a picture for me when I'm viewing it online. When they're actually edited into the file like this they stand out so obnoxiously as a framing device that they distract from the rest of the image... Like they stop becoming a border and become a (semiotic) sign speaking to the entire history and conceit of painting that is really really hard to ignore.

Tl;dr if they're not actually printed out and stuck in a frame, drop the borders. I completely understand that these could just be files you were planning to print anyway, but still.

its overcast, its film, i used a skylight filter that add a magenta tint to the shadows that ive adjusted to red-ish brown tones in post. the mid tone yellows of the grass is a bit greenish, the neutral grey concrete, pipes and asphalt has an aqua tint, as does the sky.. that might be whats doing it.

feely feelies aside: Of course its a sign, it aligns the photos more with those presented in galleries, it invites the viewer to interpret the image as they would with a image in a gallery rather than random snaps on the internet. ofc some people will abuse that, trying to elevate bad snapshits with a simple trick, and ofc some people will find it pretentious, but i find that it works for me..
