I'm still pretty much a complete noob and don't take photography seriously. These were some point and shoots while walking around London the other night, I think they're awful and that I fucked them up in post but I figure I'd try to get some input and feedback in the hopes of being prepared to get something better next time

tl;dr any input/critique/suggestions?

Well first read the sticky.

Saturation is more about taste than any objective ruleset, though to extend taste into a food metaphor: most people will agree when a soup is too salty.

The skates are blue to the point of looking as though they were painted on with one color in mspaint, and that's something that can happen when the saturation is really high. I think you would be better off keeping the saturation a little lower than it is now and instead alter the saturation of individual colors more than the whole frame. Definitely lower blue's saturation in the HSL tab of ACR in Photoshop, which I think CS6 had. It'd be weird for such a relatively recent version to not have a proper raw importer.

>>2962176
Immediately. If you're going to bother editing your photos then you need to enable raw so you have enough information saved to alter.

>>2962172
This would be better of if you moved to the left more and the got the tree more to the left and her more centered, I don't like the big red collection on the edge of the frame.

>>2962175
This has a nice set of colors but it could use more foreground / the ice and less cut-off legs.

You won't always have control over what colors appear in your photos but in post you can push colors into themes that better work. Like in the first one you could lower the saturation and rely on a contrast of blue with the ice and the light reflecting from the ice and a pale gold atmosphere. Perhaps cliche, but nice.

Good call, I think I'm always around 25% more saturated than I should be.

That was the one photo I didn't shoot, it was when I handed my camera over to the girl I was with so she could snap something quickly. I merely adjusted/cropped in shoop

That's all I had unfortunately but you're definitely right.

Doesn't look good to me, but I guess that's why I'm here

If CS6 doesn't have Adobe Camera Raw for importing raw files or the Camera Raw Filter in the filter list then you should consider updating because it's incredibly useful.

If you've never used ACR then this probably won't mean much to you but since you'll begin using either ACR or Lightroom I'll list it off anyway:

I did my main tonal adjustments from the calibration panel which allows you to adjust the hue and saturation of the primary RGB values. First I put blue toward cyan and lowered the saturation a tad, then red to orange to counteract the effect on red that blue had, then green a little to the right and more saturated to boost the yellows. Then I lowered global saturation and boosted global vibrancy which tends to even things out. Then it was on to white balance, just making it a little more yellow. Then in the HSL panel I shifted the hues and saturations and luminosities to better fit what I thought would look better, namely brightening skin and further adjusting the ice and toning down some red.

Then I did some spot adjustments to things like her face to brighten that up, brightened the edge of her jacket a bit, tried to remove what looked like vignetting, darkened and yellowed some windows.

Then it was highlights / shadows / contrast adjustment and adding a hipster curve for that hip look, and a little bit of split toning. Just a tad.

Here's the XMP file for ACR so you can check out the settings. If you don't have Camera Raw Filter you should be able to go to File -> Open As -> set the type to Camera Raw and open your JPEG. There'll be a dropdown menu over on the left toward the top but under the histogram IIRC, there'll be an option to load a preset. http://www4.zippyshare.com/v/NmV2Zs7t/file.html

If you don't like it that's absolutely fine, it's not the only way to adjust a photo.

>>2962217
Shit I forgot about this thread.

Yeah that looks great, With bluer ice that'd be ideal I reckon.

Thanks, and good call.
>>
>>2962217
The brightened faces look nicer, as well as the warmer tone of the image. But I think you over-exposed the ice and the white roof. Ice especially, has nearly white glow which I find makes photo feel unbalanced.

You did snap up a few good moments.

But I agree, your post apparently kinda fucked up quite a lot.

>>2962176
Always. Just make sure you set your computer to auto-import to DXO or LR or something that makes it easy to process the resulting shots.

>>2962177
B&W is a band-aid for a poor shot. You can try it when something is messed up but you wanted to have what you shot anyhow.

Of course you generally should shoot in colour. If you want to challenge yourself to do well, just do it with that.

>>2962186
The most irritating thing here is that you moved your hands.

I also think f/3.5 might not be too sharp on that lens. And then ISO3200 is at the limit of your camera.

To at least partly fix this, see if you can't do night shots with a f/1.4 lens (30mm Sigma is fairly cheap) or on a monopod at narrower aperture or something.
