I am admittedly only beginning to delve into lighting and flash photography but I was wondering if anyone had some guess to what was used to create this effect by Paolo Roversi.
I can't imagine it'd be an incredibly complex setup. It looks like there's a main soft box or beauty dish and maybe a fill light shooting through some lattice or something to cast those shadows?
If anyone with more experience in this area has any ideas I'd be happy to hear them.
Another example, this is from Dior Magazine if anyone was curious, there are some more examples in there.
it's a single fucking light source you fuck, from above, camera right.

Thanks, anything else? I figured it was one source but those shadows seem really harsh
>>2958710
Specifically on the first photo I posted though, it looks like they're using something to cast a shadow onto the faces

adding another light won't make the shadows harsher, it's just post processing to make the shadows real dark. lots of dodge and burn too, faces aren't that smooth even with makeup.

could be some torn up rags being shaken to soften the shadow edges, don't really need a specific thing to cast shadows for texture.
