The D70 has a first generation sensor that performed well at its base ISO, but degrades rapidly as you get beyond ISO 400. At that point, any modern sensor will probably perform better. But lenses trump sensor and skill is far more important than either.

Of course there are many on this board who will claim it's impossible to shoot at night with a camera that isn't noise free at ISO 364000

But that's because they're either 12 years old, or are looking for excuses to justify buying new gear.

Yes, the horrific noise and "bandings". How could anyone ever use a photo with the slightest hint of noise or "bandings".

Btw, keep this in perspective. These pictures are from a 12 year old entry-level 6MP DSLR, which was not the best performing camera of its day, using the cheapest and slowest kit lens, in low light. The deck could not be more stacked against this equipment, yet the results are plenty usable. Perfect? Of course not, but far better than gearfags like to pretend.

The Nikon has a bigger sensor, but the iPhone 7 has better sensor quality.
The d70 sensor was an old Sony CCD sensor, Sony also manufactures iPhone sensors, they use CMOS exmor.
Exmor has superior dynamic range to older sensors, and better low light performance.
The iPhone has much smaller pixels than the d70, but they both have similar low light performance.
iPhone lenses are shit however, which is why the d70 wins this competition
