Well i just got back from a 2 week roadtrip up through Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper and then back through Glacier National Park. I've never actually made my own thread on here, so I figured I should share some shots.
This first one is from Glacier National Park, taken on the side of Going to the Sun Road. Glacier's official Instagram shared the shot, as did the US Department of the Interior.

On the drive up to Moraine Lake (which I'll post in a bit), I pulled over for this shot. Funny because Moraine Lake is one of the most photographed spots in the world, to the point where it's actually annoying, so I was stoked to find a shot that's a little more unique.
I'm off to work for now. I'll be back later, bye!

This one is nice. I do wish the camera was pointed a little lower.

These photos are a victim of dynamic range squeezing. I suggest you give up on it, you won't squeeze the dynamic range into a photograph. Your post processing in making the sky darker is quite extreme, but the halos around mountains aren't the primary problem. The primary problem is that the foreground is just too dark. You are putting a lot of lipstick on a pig in both photographs.
Like it. I had the choice to go to Banff or Montreal this summer and went to Montreal. I chose poorly.

Bullshit
These both look absolutely fine, you can make out all the detail in the shadows and the halos are minimal.
The sky and peaks are clearly the focal points, and they are exposed just right to do so.
Great job OP, the set really shows off what a fantastic combo the new sony bodies and the oem sony lenses are.

No exposure stacking at all. I find bracketing to be tedious and unnecessary because of how good the DR on the Sony sensors is. Also for the record, I'm not that shill from earlier haha... don't get paid by them, but it is a really fun camera. Finding the shot is really the fun part for me, and arguably my only talent when it comes to photography. I'm weirdly good at wandering to random places with good views haha. over-processed digi shit. looks fake and gay.
oh but you included a watermark with your instagram since you're so totally"out in the wild" as you walk along the tourist trails of banff.
The processing is disappointing. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. You've lifted shadows and flattened highlights to the point where there are no lights and no darks anymore thus believability is compromised.
I Know everyone gets an erection at the thought of "Muh dynamic range" but most people just abuse it and these pictures are an example of that.
>>2944592 the lower slopes of the mountain has way more detail than it should and is distracting, the trees in the middle distance have the same tonal weight as those in the foreground and the yellow leaves and matching clouds have the Rockwell seal of approval
>>2944593 the reflections in the water have too much colour and detail
>>2944594 foreground lifted clouds lowered rockwellian oranges
>>2944595 flat featureless swathe of trees across the middle diminished any notion of distance between foreground and back

Oh someone is butthurt that their $9k Leica didn't make them a good photographer, and that nobody wants to buy their black and white pictures of old men in a park.
Just because there's good views from a road doesn't mean those views aren't worth seeing. It also doesn't mean that someone NEVER ventures off the road.
Just for you, a picture in the wild. Hiked 4 miles by headlamp in the dark through bear country to watch sunrise from a ridge covered in yellow Larch trees. Are you so impressed by how wild I am?

Why shoot this at f/2?
>>2944859
You're not exactly a good photographer either. They are "postcards". The compositions are boring. They are over-cooked.
I can even tell you what you've done
-100 Hightlights
-100 whites
+100 shadows
+100 blacks.
Then you adjusted the curve. It doesn't look believable.
Inb4 "butthurt"
>>2944864
I assume to get a nice defocus on the foreground. I don't mind it here at this size because the lens is obviously sharp enough to handle it. At full size, I dunno how the depth of field would look, but it's possible to get a shot like this fully in focus at f2 if you're careful at 28mm.
>>2944859
I'm more impressed with your amount of projecting:
>butthurt that his expensive gear still just takes the same generic images I could pull up on google
Check
>butthurt that nobody will EVER pay actual money for these prints in any form
Check
>butthurt over being to fat to hike
Check
PS I shoot with a 5d2
I like your photos and I want to take similar ones, to leave these /p/ streetplebs behind. Have you ever climbed a mountain and took photos up there?
>>2944868
Well you're wrong about the processing, but that's okay. I also never said I was a good photographer, I just said I went on a trip and wanted to share some pictures. Then I remembered why nobody good ever posts here, because it's just a shitty cesspool of hate.
>>2944864
Because the $200 manual rokinon lens I shot that with is honestly pretty terrible across all aperatures, so I just shoot wide open so I can keep the ISO low.

Alex Burke posts here, and he is quite accomplished. He's in fact the greatest landscape photographer to ever post on this board. You could learn a lot from reading his posts. It's just that you're not good, even though you like to think so.
Also don't lie about your PP. I had a D800E with a Sony sensor. I know what dynamic range squeezing looks like on Sony sensors.

You'll notice I never claimed to be good, that was all projection on your end. Literally what I said was that I was going to share some images. You guys just chose to shit all over me because you're sad people and I guess you get some fun out of that? Anyhow, lesson learned, see ya later I guess.

>>2944892
Also if your cool with your pictures you shouldn't be insecure with your processing or be threatened by anons lol. If your sharing (as most do) for appraisal or validation then here is definitely not the place. but taking criticism with a grain of salt it's not horrible. just saying harden up that skin little guy it's a rough world out there.
>>2944592
Consider a square crop and the haloing is somewhat of an issue. See if you can fix it by really pulling the graduation in a filtering much further down into the ground.

fuck off trolls someone finally posted a decent non-shite photo thread and it wasn't d or Alex.
>>2944592
What is white balance, this is way too yellowish.
Dude. Seriously, lay off the sharpening. It really is to a point where it's detrimental. Nice colors overall. The compositions felt generic, but it's landscape photos so eh. A lot of them have a bit of a blue tint, and I say this from a print shop monitor, so take that as you will. Otherwise good thread, forget the haters, this board is just a troll machine now.

Good editing to make the clouds look so dynamic, but definitely at the expense of any realism (and a bit of tree masking / gradient fade out in the mountain). The two tall evergreens are good for framing but the out of focus branches on the bottom right are a bit of a pain. It makes a great thumbnail.
>>2944594
At first I like it, but the more I look at it the more little things annoy me. A bit heavily baked for sure. Top half of the pic is great, lake is nice of course, but the rest is busy / boring and really inconsistent.
>>2944595
The best shot, good layering, fairly clean editing and natural colour tint. The snow in the sun is a good white balance, and the cyan layer of trees isn't too cyan. Props to the layering again. Foreground is perfect height to balance the rest of the shot.
>>2944834
This is too cyan though. Calm lake and all, and i know it's pretty impossible to be original here, but abusing the colour isn't helping it stand out.
>>2944838
Better, I always think the boats make a good foreground, but in this case too scattered and random. The reflection at the bottom is an eye catcher. Might have been a different angle that exaggerated that and the boats that would work? Maybe lying right on the ground bottom left?
>>2944843
Why does the sharpness / contrast drop off to terrible near the right 10% of the picture? Shame there's no good foreground because that was a pretty amazing timed rainbow / sun spots on the mountains.
>>2944878
just bad.
