Yeah, about the newbies with their pro-looking xti cameras with the vert grips. Keep your gear in the car. Play photographer on your own dime, not mine. Pack a PS camera like you're supposed to. Otherwise you're just confusing people. I will recognize you instantly as an overzealous hobbyist, but the groom's mother (or whoever) may not. Whether they embrace your presence or shun it, you are a menace. I don't have the time, the interest or the patience in talking to you about my profession while I'm in the middle of a shoot. My advice to you is just don't be there. Send me a resume. Work as an assistant. Get a BFA at a reputable school. Cut your teeth somewhere else.

This is going to sound counter-intuitive, rude and snobbish, but the way I see it, the worst thing about the advent of digital photographic equipment and instant on-the-spot feedback is that it has allowed non-professionals to produce professional-looking results. You "lolstrobist" types are the worst of the lot, I'm afraid. You cost me money. You cost me jobs. Not because you are skilled, although some of you are (to varying degrees), but because you can self-correct as you go. The result here on /p/ is a board of pretty snazzy photos, but the image is NOT all that matters.
