So I have this Alpha 7MKII and it takes really crappy pictures. These lines make no sense at all... should I just return or is there an explanation for what is going on with the perspective in this picture?

What's your problem with the lines?

The image isn't cropped or tilted. This is obviously not a matter of perspective.

You might be on to something, since other images turned out better. It's a bad, painfully slow camera regardless.

If you didn't tilt the camera to take that pic, there's something severely wrong with it.

If not, its major problem is that it's being used by a moron who doesn't understand the basics of perspective. Sadly, getting a new camera won't fix that.
>>
You Sonyfaggots are so fucking retarded beyond comprehension.
>>
M8, I think you have a bigger problem than the camera if you can't comprehend perspective.

It's caused by corrosion.

Unfortunately this voids the warranty
>>
>>2926659
There is nothing wrong with this image.

also
the bottom two lines you drew are wrong.

Also, also
fucking buildings, especially old buildings are never 100% perfectly
people who take architecture photography use photoshop or 4x5 movements to correct perspective.

Also also also
if you want to make sure your camera is allright do a test shot on a tripod.
Grab a large board, or paper or anything.
place it against a wall
draw parallel lines
take a picture
picture should have 'correct lines'

'test'

I drew the lines to compare the horizontal lines following the cornices in order to compare the upper storeys to the lower ones. Because the upper cornices are almost perfectly even, the lower ones should be just as straight, which is not the case obviously.

There is nothing wrong with the a7ii, it is a fantastic body. Most likely you are using it wrong.

You are using the 28-70mm kit zoom aren't you?

While it is damn good for a kit lens, it is still a kit lens.

If you are serious about architectural photography, try the Voigtlander 10mm. It is the wideet reftilinear lens ever made. It should be quite free of distortion. Here is a review.

If that lens is too pricey, you can look at the Sayang 14mm f2.8.

Bro,

do you even have eyes?

Do you understand perspective and distortion?

Do you think a sensor has the ability to magically make lines wonky?

>I drew the lines to compare the horizontal lines following the cornices in order to compare the upper storeys to the lower ones. Because the upper cornices are almost perfectly even, the lower ones should be just as straight, which is not the case obviously.

But that's wrong
the upper line is only horizontal because you held the camera at an angle (see next post)
if you tilt the image you will see that the upper line / upper cornices and the horizontal / above the arches converge to a single vanishing point

>>2927020
In perspective, all parallel lines appear to converge to a single point on the horizon. Each object has its own vanishing points

What you've done is draw a horizontal line in 2d space, but that line is not the horizon. that's why you can't project to that line.

The horizon line is always at eye level.

if you hold the camera at an angle,
your horizon line is going to be at that angle too.

>fucking buildings, especially old buildings are never 100% perfectly

Here in Amsterdam the building are slanted on purpose: creates extra floor space on the higher floors.
>>
>>2927028
I thought that was because the city was built on wood

>The city of Amsterdam is built on a bog. The unstable soil is too soft to build on, which is why houses is built on piles driven deep into the ground until they reach a solid layer of rock, firmer sand, or compacted clay.
>>
>>2927034
That's what most people think, but I have it on good authority that it's (mostly) by design.
>>
>>2927035
Even the diagonal ones?

maybe diagonal was not the word I was looking for.
opslag
assurantien
are at an angle
because the building is starting to lean
>>
>>2927037
It's a combination of the two.
But they already leaned when they were build, and the higher floors do have a bigger floor area.

When they switched from wood to brick buildings they build the new brick buildings perfectly straight.
But one straight building in a street with buildings that all lean forward looks as if it's leaning backwards.
So they quickly went back to building leaning buildings.

Yes because that photo has a an incredibly more attractive perspective.

Fuck me M8 you need to actually take some grade school levels of art to comprehend perspective.
>>
>>2927528
What bothered me was that I couldn't comprehend the level of distortion my lense is making, thus the confusion.
