I purchased these books from the original author. His work is quite exhaustive.
Ask about lenses from the 1990's or so and earlier and I will endeavor to deliver the data.

Asking to satisfy my curiosity, nothing more--
Tell us about the "4 elements 3 groups" Tessar designs, the ones that Soviet rangefinders would use; with particular view towards the causes of swirly bokeh (aka uncorrected astigmatism) and measures that later designs took to correct it.
I only have a Ricoh GR ii so anything relevant to that lens would be cool. Actually watching the Marc levoy photo course right now so I'd be really interested to learn about my gear. Sorry if that is a dumb request

I know you said 90s but i was assuming Ricoh GR lense from 90s weren't radically different
Does it talk about super fast lens design (f0.95, f1.2)?

Please come up with specific lens names anon, this work is >1500 pages long but I assume you mean pic. Sadly the Soviet lens development after they stole Zeiss is a story yet to be written.

I know nothing about the Ricoh GR film lenses, other than they are supposedly very sharp. If you can find a block diagram I could try to cross-reference it with the block diagram indexes in my books here and it might be educational. But on a cursory search I didn't find the Ricoh GR film camera lens formula.

Yes extensively, many manufacturers tried to come up with fast sharp lenses with varying success (financial and MTF-wise).
If you're interested in the compromises and design history of fast lenses let me recommend Laikin's Lens Design. This work I have is more of a catalog / genealogy of specific lens designs and companies.

My feeling after looking all up and down the catalog is that it's a nicely corrected Baker type lens.

Anything on Olympus XA lenses? Or any compact prime lenses?
I'm really interested in obtaining this book. Is there a hard copy of it, or is the pdf version the only one in existence?
Also, if you could share some info on the Apo-Lanthar design, that would be great. I own and love the lens, but haven't found much documentation of it. Thanks in advance!

Here's the formula for the XA lens. There is formula info compiled for quite a few Olympus lenses.
Olympus is rumored to have created a complex lens design system and later was supposed to have licensed it to Canon (only).

Sadly as I said this is the book's entire Ricoh entry.
This book is the work of a single collector and for companies that did not interest him the information is sometimes cursory.
good thread anon.

I bought it as a PDF and it came mailed from Britain.
