I have the OS HSM, I believe yours will be a bit lighter. You will have to learn using the big heavy lens though, expect a lot of missed shots in the beginning. I found that supporting the lens at the extended barrel (handheld) is much more stable and it is possible to pump-zoom.
Also get a strap to support by the tripod mount. Avoid blackrapid, it can't support the weight, breaks easily. Get something like the peak design slide.

The HD 150-450 won't be much of a difference except for the weather sealing, so if you like the Bigma then I'd suggest to keep with it, maybe get a raincoat for it.
The DA* 300 is another story, even with the 1.4x TC it will have the sharpness like in Ambush's shots with his 600/4 uberlens. I'd say to go for it along with the Bigma, I am doing the same over here at the other side of the pond.

Get close enough, and any lens is going to give you sharpness. The 600 f/4 is very capable of muddy snapshits, believe me... often I'll take longer range shots such as >>2919739 just for ID purposes, and they are nothing special. It really does shine up close, though.
All of my good BIF shots are within 50 feet, whether at 300 or 600mm. Beyond that, and it looks like any other lens. You may get a larger image, but there is no fine detail. Heat shimmer and humidity are real issues at 600mm.
I used to shoot crop only, but had problems with having wings clipped. Full frame fixed that, and allowed me to get closer, which is how you get the real detail. Crop factor just keeps you farther away.

yeah I checked it with some text and barcodes and it didnt look great, but not as bad as it did outside. when i shot outside i did it in good and bad light, with af and manual focus, and couldnt get anything better than "barely usable" with a lot of shots being really bad.

I vary my shutter speed between 1/2000s and 1/800s and sometimes go much lower like in that shot where I didn't anticipate any sudden movement.

So I did some more testing with AF and MF in live view, and it's noticeably less sharp than the HD 55-300. going to see how much I can get at a local pawn shop, and buy new DA* 300mm f4. already have a tamron 1.4x tc and want to see how it performs (though I'm not expecting too much) before thinking about coupling it with an HD 1.4x tc.

I wouldn't even bother selling if it had a defect. If it was so cheap maybe you can still try and have it fixed, the other anon with a screwdrive bigma has excellent results from that lens. Probably worth it a few bucks to get it checked first and see how much it costs to fix. You still have the 55-300 so there is no big hurry.

The 300mm f/4 is cheaper and sharper, but a complete unicorn. The canon version can also not stop down its shutter, on digital bodies, which is a little frustrating but f/4 is so good it's only a detriment when you desire DoF. I paid £125 for mine and love the finish which gives great grip.

Closest I'd ever gotten to one, was pretty excited. There was a lot of shit in the way though, and it was behind a small hill, so I was limited to this angle.
