I added a girl to model for me because I wanted to get to know her better and I knew she'd had modelling experience before. But I know nothing about photography.
I have about a week to learn everything I can and at least be a little aware of how to use a camera. I don't need to be taking awesome pictures (I told her I was just getting into it) I just need to be able to not look like an idiot. Thanks.

do you wanna go studio or daylight?

Why didn't you just offer to buy her dinner. It's much easier and you don't run the risk of making yourself look like a pratt.

You're not into photography and you just want to get into her pants by pretending to be an enthusiast?
>I knew she'd had modelling experience before
deep inside you want to take nudies of her and then bang her
>But I know nothing about photography
shes gonna find out that you're more of a certified creep who lied and will never talk to you ever again.

I actually was planning on getting into photography tho, I compounded my problems. Instead of just tackling then separately like I should have I committed to having them both barrel towards me terribly.
So yeah I need help cause I'm a retard.

NOBODY HELP HIM!
its funnier if he looks like an idiot. i would never tell a girl to come see my band play and not have a band or even know how to play an instrument.
It's not bad for starting out.
First thing is read the instruction manual. You should at least know how to operate the camera even if you don't know how to take a good photo. At the very least you can take some photos in auto-mode and have something to show for it.
Two things you can do. First you can read other people's articles and follow their case study where they tell you exactly how to set everything up to do a specific thing then duplicate it. It won't teach you theory but you can get practice actually handling your camera and taking pictures. Second you can buy a basic photography book and start studying theory. It will give you a foundation to be a better photographer but won't necessarily make your pictures any better for a while.
Third, go out every day and start taking pictures of different subjects. Take hundreds and thousands of pictures and start sorting through them, cropping them and processing them. You'll get practice using the camera and it will quickly be apparent where you are having trouble. You can then start reading books or watching/reading tutorials at the end of each day to try to fix those problems. Rinse and repeat because there are plenty of things to learn.
Go out and shoot pictures for 12 hours a day, every 6 hours post your 10 best pictures of the last 6 hours in this thread.
Keep doing this until it's time to do the shoot and you'll be ready.

make sure to post the pics here. you already got the best advice which is to read the manual. photography is something you get good at through practice, not books though

I'm goan post some practice pics tonight. At least she's aware I'm just learning, so as long as I know how to make all the proper adjustments on the camera and take OK pics I should be fine.
For quality settings it gives me the following:
1. NEF (RAW) + JPEG fine
2. NEF (RAW)
3. JPEG fine
4. JPEG normal
5. JPEG basic
Is the point of the lower quality ones to save space on the chip? And what's the difference between between nef and JPEG?
>>2912969
1. until you're learning to edit raws, it's better to have the jpg just in case your raws look even worse than the in-camera jpgs
once you're comfortable with editing raws,
2.

Jesus anon.. If you wanna shoot the girl start shooting portraits.. why are you shooting nature and leaves? Is she a fucking tree?
go shoot your mum or dad or friends or something.
>>2912557
This.
>>2913094
I was shooting this shit to get an idea ow how to take a proper picture. I told her I need a model to practice with, so as long as I can take a decent picture in general then I think I'll be fine. I will also spend some time researching composing photos with a person in them.
Any critiques of the pictures I did take?
>>2913104
Get some liquor in her. Grab a blender and make some fruity smoothies and spike them with coconut rum. Tell her to chug the drinks while you get warmed up on the lighting and focus.
Ask if she's hungry, offer her some pizza. Go in the other room and come back with the pizza box in your hands. When she pops the lid on the box, have your cock and balls visibly inserted through a hole underneath the box. Just play it cool and enjoy that sweet, sweet model blowjob. All us photographers do this trick. If she responds like she's not into it, then you didn't get enough rum inside her. To salvage the photoshoot, just act as surprised as her, be like, "Would'ja look at dat? How-n-da-hell did THAT get in there?" "Ayyy, check it out...extra sausage baby, just the way you like it."
>>2913130
So do you have any criticisms of the pictures I've posted so far?
>>2913133
Badly exposed, not intresting subjects, not well composed unless you're shooting on Wikipedia.
LISTEN
In composition you have to understand lots of things if you're shooting in colors!
Shoot in b&w so you have to understand just the important things such as the position of your subject and the light conditions.
>>2913153
Tell me all about color composition. I want to know as much as possible as quickly as possible.
>>2913163
go watch videos to learn more.. then go out take your pictures then come back here and post again.

Ok, so basically you have to understand that colors brings more information than b&w to the viewer.
Practically, you can express a variety of emotion different from the one that you can reach by black and white. Ignoring the color grading, aimed to add a color grain to the whole photo, we can reason on the composition of the real colors, so the one that with white balance you'll make corresponding to the real one you, or the biggest part of the humans, sees.
With these colors you can arrange different composition, based on the position, on the saturation and on the discrepancy of tonalities of the colors you're looking at.
Take the portrait of the afghan girl (I don't remember the actual name, also I'm from moble so I cant find the picture).
On that we have a contrast between cold and heat colors. The color of the skin of the girl is opposed to the color of the background, even if the focus is on the green eyes, again a cold color, in accordance to the... Guess? The background.
Also one of the eyes of the girl is centered to the aurea section of the picture, making the composition more "accurate". The colors are oversaturated and the contrast increased, so making those differences between colors more marked.
As I said, a good color composition is fecking difficiooooult.
If you're going to shoot outside, don't bring her to a park, bring her to somewhere where you can have a grey city background: So that the background will be in shadows of (oh dear, damn book) grey, and the colors of your subject will be more evident to the rest.

You realistically can't competently learn how to shoot manual that quickly, look up guides on how to shoot in "aperture priority mode"
You'll have the easiest time in that
Chances op post the results?
>>2913554
I don't know what you're trying to say
Unfortunately today I didn't have time to shoot at all due to job stuff but I'm getting back to it tomorrow after my first day of work in about a month.

Lower quality files gives you more storage space on the card, depending on how much you are shooting and the size of the card it may or may not make a difference.
Lower quality shots also take up less space in the buffer. If you are shooting in burst mode (non-stop shots) every image is loaded into the buffer before being transferred to the card. Your camera can take pictures faster than it can transfer it so if you shoot RAW files you'll run out of buffer after a second or two. JPEG files take up less space so you can fit more of them into the buffer and if you reduce the resolution you can shoot even more before filling the buffer. If you have a high-speed card, and low enough quality you may be able to shoot non-stop without filling the buffer.
This tends to be important for sports photographers or other people who need to shoot dozens of shots in order to get that one keeper.

Go to the store and buy a few gooseneck lamps, daylight temperature bulbs, one of those Barbie sized Star War figures, and a few misc. toys. Look up a portrait photography lighting guide and practice positioning lights to get the desired lighting. You can also use just one of them to simulate the sun and practice natural lighting with a folded piece of white paper as a reflector to act as a fill light.
