I just got a camera after i've been inspired by all the amazing photos i see everywhere. This is my favourite from my first day as a photographer. is close up photos a thing? Thoughts about this photo? i want to be able to take landscape photos aswell.is a wide lens needed or can i work with what i have already?

i'm happy for all the feedback i can get.

Do you still have a photo laying around from your first day?

I like that bit of green coming out of the crack. the super close up shots are macro. You don't need a wide lens for that but it can have great results with different angles. f/20+ is perfect for landscape to have everything in focus

I think you can getto a macro lens by buying a converter and flipping the lens backwards

So because you're too stupid to calculate the minimum hyperfocal distance for what aperture you need you just set the smallest aperture?

congrats on your first camera, OP!
you should post more photos so we can give you more feedback, as for the one your post I think it's cool with the blue standing out but a bit underexposed.
read up on the basic elements of photography: ISO, aperture, shutter speed - go shoot a lot and have fun with your camera, hope to see you post more photos in this thread or the RPT!

>I just got a camera after i've been inspired by all the amazing photos i see everywhere.
Hope you enjoy it. EXIF says it's the 400D? That was my first digital camera as well (a hand-me-down)

>This is my favourite from my first day as a photographer.
I used to shoot a lot of random stuff close-up in my early days too, it's a phase... but don't let anyone tell you to "just get it over with", experimentation and curiosity is what'll move you forward.

>is close up photos a thing?
Yes, it's called macro photography, there are even lenses specially designed for this. When someone refers to magnification, such as 1:1 or 1:2, it refers to the size of the subject (in reality) relative to the physical size of the sensor. It used to make more sense with film, since you could actually look at the film sheet and compare the image on it next to the real thing, but basically if the sensor in your camera is 22x15mm, then an object that is actually 22x15mm will fill up the entire frame at 1:1 magnification. Typical lenses only manage 0.11~0.15x, or about 7~8 times more distant than a true macro.

>Thoughts about this photo? i want to be able to take landscape photos aswell.is a wide lens needed or can i work with what i have already?
You don't really need a wide lens for landscape, since many compositions can be achieved with any length of lens, even 300mm or more. The 400D is very lacking in resolution, so I would suggest shooting panoramas and combining them in Photoshop to compensate, so you can get away without needing a wide lens.

>Do you still have a photo laying around from your first day?
pic related; a shot out of my (at the time) bedroom window. Luckily the camera was already set to RAW, even before I knew what that was.
