Hi /p/. Doing my first exhibition soon and need advice on printing in the UK. Need to find a good balance between quality and price. (top quality = unaffordable). Any other tips from experienced photogs about exhibition much appreciated.
Uploading some pics that will probably be used in the exhibition

Bump with crabs... I was wondering if it might not be worth just investing in a printer and doing all the printing myself - as I plan on printing more photos in the future

DSCL are pretty good balance between quality and price.
Just don't order any of the heavyweight papers they use for their fine art prints, they have no clue what they're doing about handling them.

It looks like Amiens in France, for Somme Battle
Thanks! Does anyone know the best way to do framing: simple white or black?
Have another photo, its actually China.

How big were you planning on printing them?
That's a good question... Am in the process of test printing some, but some need to be big. Was thinking a minimum size of 8X10 and going up to A4 or even A3 for some.

8x10-11x14 is really not very big at all. Definitely print them out, even if its shit quality, and put them on a wall that is similar to the one they will go on in the end. You will notice that if the wall is relatively blank and over 8 feet high that your work will look very small. How many will there be on the wall, and how will the show be mounted? Is it just a line of photographs, or a grid? Is it a salon style show, where there are big groupings of photos? If that is the case, then printing that small might look alright

Also, to add to what i said here, have you considered anything beyond "simple white or black" framing? You will come to find that decent framing and presentation will either cost money, or a good amount of time to learn how to do it yourself. I tell you as much as I can about what I have learned, but in my experience, you have to go through some trial and error when it comes to presentation. Presentation is almost just as important as a good print. You can have the most boring subject matter, but if you print and present it well enough, many people will think that there is something interesting there or else it wouldn't have been presented so well, if you get what I am saying. Presentation is a way of contextualizing your work, and the decisions you make affect the reading in very subtle ways.

I had thought of grouping photos around a certain theme, one being "urban landscape" and having a larger photo and numerous smaller ones together probably ordered in a grid. Still checking out venues but the one has display boards which are probably not more than 2m high.
In regards to framing, cost is the biggest issue. Was going to do my own matting and buy cheap black frames with plastic instead of glass. Hopefully the colour scheme will compensate for the cheapness of the frame - totally agree with your point about presentation. Thanks for the help!
