The good thing is, because you're braver than most photographers, you'll get more unique shots.

Use less expensive equipment, or buy mace.

Get a friend to join you. Get a less conspicuous cam. Get insurance. Wear dumb reflective clothing. Wear athletic shoes and be prepared to run. Savor the moments of fear. Use it as inspiration. You have options.

I'd also recommend a good 2.8 zoom so you can concuss people that ambush you
