Why are people paying up to $500 for this meme?
>>2880500
>Zeiss
>>2880501
>Wrong
The real answer is Terry Richardson.
It's pretty nice but for that price I'd rather just get the contax t2 since I prefer that 38/2 sonnar
That being said I'm a hopeless contax fanboy since the 45mm planar on the g2 is just heaven
Ricoh gr1v never
I think there's lots of better stuff for the price and people buy those because while they are really good they're certainly getting harder and harder to find
>>2880500
There's almost a dozen up on ebay for about half that you dingus
>>2880500
I paid 800 for a voigtlander r3meme
What?! Since when has this camera cost more than ~$150????
>>2880628
>>2880733
jesus christ I'm in the wrong business
Got this much better and aesthetically pleasing camera for $100
You are all memed hard
>>2880500
I'm not sure, but I paid about that many AUD for this meme.

she sure is cool now
>>2880500

WHAT
>>2880853
Damn, I felt like I overpayed a little when I paid €40 for mine, but since it came with original box, manual etc. in almost unused condition I felt it was ok...

>>2880985
my nig
I've got an mju-ii as well and they both serve perfect roles
xa is more fun to use though
Anyone crazy enough to use a film compact these days will want a high-end and famous one. Since there aren't that many of them left, demand drives up the price.
>>2880507
>prefer the horrendous edge blur and vignetting
>>2881060
Well like I said mostly due to price. I've seen them go for 250-400 and with the t3 being even more expensive it puts me in a weird spot
Also while I think 35mm is decent I'd rather stick with 21-28mm or 45-50mm after using my mju-ii for a while
While there is a little bit more vignetting it's still fairly easy to avoid and I cannot really see horrendous edge blur
https://www.flickr.com/groups/contax_t2/pool/
I'd really have to compare them side by side because personally my priorities for film compacts can lean more towards size/usability than lens quality. A perfect example of that is mju-ii vs XA
Also I'm a contax fanboy so take my opinion on this with a grain of salt even though I tried to be fairly objective about it
What's a relatively inexpensive compact 35mm point and shoot? I want one to take on holiday, something small I can throw in my pocket.
Mju-ii are pretty expensive now in the UK, which would've been my first choice.
What are the Leica Mini's like?
So what is *the best* compact then? The Contax T2/T3?
I'm thinking of selling some of my gear and investing in a decent compact.
>>2881084
There's like a million really decent compacts so I wouldn't sell your stuff just to get one. The t2 isn't perfect and the t3 is far better but twice the price
What's your price range and what do you want of the camera?
If you look at the compacts that famous people use they're all super expensive. Or at least they've become super expensive because of their popularity.
What are some none expensive alternatives?
Juergen Teller: Contax T2
Terry Richardson: Yashica T4
Daido Moriyama: Ricoh GR1
Ryan McGinley: Yashica T4
Mario Testino: Contax TVS III
Annie Leibovitz: Contax T2
Robert Frank: Konica Big Mini
Sofia Coppola: Contax T3
Henri Cartier-Bresson: Leica Minilux
>>2881118
Doesn't Juergen Teller use multiple G2s with different lenses on them? I didn't think he used the T2
i have one of these just lying around, I always assumed it was a POS?
>using a compact ever
The camera of this phone takes better photos than those shit.
>>2881286
Honestly, truth. Once I got a phone with a good camera my Stylus Epic got much less use.
Still fun to take out now and then loaded with b/w. Shoot/dev/scan same day.
>>2881304
Having a compact is fine but the issue is pointed out by OP >>2880500.
Why spend upwards of $50+ on a film P&S when your phone can take its place not to mention it doesn't need to be loaded with film.
>muuhhh lens
>muuuh zeiss
No one gives a crap especially since you can barely even notice the difference between a photo taken with a zeiss lens or with a camera phone. Spend the money on a better film instead.
>>2881286
the film compacts are faster, for my style of shooting thats what I want
If you're just talking photos of sunsets and your friends than I guess a phone would be fine
>>2881068
Pentax PC-555 and Nikon L35AF are still worth dirt. They take exactly the same photos in exactly the same way as these Oly's and Cuntax's.

Kind of OT, but it always throws me for a loop that HCB was still around and shooting in the age of modern electronic P&S, and even made it to the dawn of digital. We associate him so much with those grainy B&W images made on the first 35mm cameras that it's almost hard to think of the same guy in an era of autofocus and vivid slide film.
>>2881315
honestly if you can't generally see the difference between a zeiss-shot 35mm slide and a shot from a camera phone, your eyes are fucked
>>2881344
>honestly if you can't generally see the difference between a zeiss-shot 35mm slide and a shot from a camera phone, your eyes are fucked
Not him but the difference is that the shot from the camera phone is of much better quality. Slide has shit tier dynamic range.

Xa is a meme. Half of my photos had a wrist strap in them (until I cut it off), the other half were blurry, all of them were crooked, and maybe 2 were good. It's a nicely built travel camera, but irrelevant in 2016

You sick fuck
for a phone you'd need some sort of grip case with integrated shutter button (w/ half press focus)
the default form factor is compared to a shitty compact
This thread is relevant to my interests. I shoot with rangefinders/SLRs which are great but I need something more compact as an everyday carry/holidays etc.
My criteria:
Compact, small enough to fit in coat pocket
Ability to disable the flash
Sharp, fast, fixed lens (35-50mm)
Black if possible
I don't mind spending a bit extra to get something better but I don't have Contax T3 money. Maybe around £100...

canon ml
>>2881441
Olympus XA (XA3 just as good, but cheaper)
Very compact, about 4'' wide and 2.5" high and 1" deep
Flash is attachable
Fixed 3.5 on the XA3
Black

I paid somewhere around $35 for my XA with the A11 and it's honestly one of the cameras I doubt I'd ever sell. I'm glad I got one before the meme train went full steam and the prices jumped to over $100.

Question for all the Yashica/XA/Mju owners in this thread: How many frames do you get on a roll? I can get ~39 with my AF35ML
>>2888066
Might need to get one of those. I've always wanted a waist level finder.
>>2888066
>>2887964
I had no idea they made a Super T3. I bought a Yashica T5 about 4 years ago for about $200. I did kinda fall for the meme, but at the time I as 16, and thought that $200 was a good deal given they were still going for $400-500 (holy shit) back in the day. I love this thing though and all of the terryness that comes along with it. i'm under no delusion that the quality is any better than what XA or Mju can produce, but it's still kinda sexy and exclusive in its own terry way : )
>>2888095
>Meant T4 super D and T3, a T3 always has the scope.
It was late.
I have every XA, the yashica is definitely sharper then any of them. I have no Muji's, they are too meme for me.
>>2888274
Yeah. Mine is a little fucked up, I drop it a lot and don't really care for its well being, but it still holds up. Its like the nokia of compacts. This isn't the sharpest image ever but given the light and the fact that I treat my T5 like shit says a lot
for that money you can get a mint ricoh gr1v
Shot this on a T4. I'm a fan of them. Comparable to the Contax T2 I would say lens wise, you just miss out on the controls.
