Bob Shell
Written by a guy who killed one of his drug addled models while engaged in some S & M shit.
What are some good Japanese books? I've bought this.
Maybe Daido stuff? I don't really know any other famous Japanese photographers.

The Passionate Photographer: Ten steps to becoming great by Steve Simon
Legit the most inspiring photography book I've ever read. Literally reading it through for the 3rd time currently. This book has made me improve my photography tenfold, really educational shit. It's extremely thorough and covers everything from working a composition, to camera settings, Lightroom tips, printing/publishing shots etc etc.
Seriously recommended to anyone even remotely interested in photography, it's a bloody great read.

maybe not famous, but I finally ordered "Okinawa Portraits 2010-2012" by Ryuichi Ishikawa the other day. I'm not into portraiture normally, but I just love this one

I'd recommend the following books by Michael Freeman. Perfect Exposure, The Photographer's Eye, The Photographer's Story, Mastering Color Digital Photography & Capturing Light. These pretty much cover most questions you will have on exposure, composition, narrative, color theory & creativity fatigue.
I posted this elsewhere, but I think anyone who really wants to understand the technical aspects of lighting needs to study this book. It is amazing.

Are there any good books about photography for advertisement? Something that goes into this history of commercial photography?
