I need a guide for basic colour-grading.
I don't knwo when to use colour-zones and when to use color-balance (gammaliftgain)
What do I do if one colour is absolutely dominant in one area, like left or right of the spectrogramm?

That's exactly the kind of colourgrading I'm not talking asbout.
Even I know that the Lift and Gamma is way overblown red while the Gain is fairly balanced.
Red shadows just look stupid. Mids should be red and shadows should be blue.
Unless you're going for a "horribly outdated technology for the sake of artistic appeal" kind of look.
How do you simultaneously crush and overbright blacks?

Have you added some super cheesy edge shading to this, or is it all in the framing? It looks like a combination of both to me.
As a thumbnail it looks ok, but at full size, the colours look all wrong and the out of focus tree is like eye-sandpaper.
I've personally tried a lot to include out of focus foreground elements in my photos, to give a sense of 3-dimensionality to them, but I've found that it can often just look like theres a big out of focus tree in the way.
The key for me is that they must be a much smaller part of the composition than you might use normally (say 1/6th of the frame, rather than 1/3, because they are never the subject), and well balanced with the other elements in the frame (such as foreground car exits stage left, while subject is moving right through the frame).

The actual composition of the shot frames it perfectly, so the extra fake and gay edge effect is probably completely unnecessary.
Maybe just turn it down to like 10% opacity, and just add (or unremove, depending on the lense you used) a very subtle normal vignette, and you'll get 90% of the effect with only 10% of the obnoxiousness.
Regarding the colour, it's just way too red and a little too warm. It's always a balancing act in these light conditions to stop the earth and timber looking grey or purple even, but you've just gone a bit too far in one direction.

No, it's not. Some images will have reduced saturation, but they are normally done for a reason, it suits the particular image. Flat and uninteresting does nothing for your photo that is already underexposed and boring.

Might be just my editing. I often use color contrast if applicable to make things "pop" more.
But I also use a fairly old LCD screen I got 4 years ago when 1680x1050 was still considered "large"
