Edited in Lightroom.

>Sharpened and luminescence first.
>Added contrast, clarity and vibrance, removed some saturation.
>Added shadows and dropped blacks a little.
>Went in to split toning, kept highlights as is, but changed shadows to a more "yellowy" effect and played about with the balance.
>Went to HSL/Colour/B&W and clicked B&W
>Added "graduated filter to areas around cars.
>Dropped whites and added some highlights.

Basically spent the last week playing about with B&W and colour editing to try get some film style effects. Did pic related a few days ago too.

Just give it a go and see how it comes out, you can always start over fresh in Adobe suites with no issues.

Couple of questions for everyone...

How do you motivate yourself when the cars on track aren't that interesting? I'm not looking to make it as my career but right now I just want to get to Le Mans/Goodwood/Silverstone F1 and am bored by the lower level stuff.

I've been playing about with this film style editing, but now find my standard edit (when I want the photo to be as accurate as possible) boring, even though the film style definitely looks silly with some cars. Feeling a bit meh about normal pictures, but not sure if that's due to what I'm taking photos of, or the editing itself.

the way I see it, an interesting ontrack shot of a boring car is better than a boring ontrack shot of an interesting car

if I'm not terribly excited by what's on track, I'll try to find angles I haven't shot before, obstructions to pan through, stupidly slow pans, that kind of thing

keep practising and trying to nail slower shutter speeds, and get familiar with how proximity to your subject changes the shot dramatically

I'd look at using a polariser at the very least in future though to cut light, especially in sunny conditions

I'm looking at the photo in question and it has good contrast, both globally and locally, nice reflections, soft light, muted color tones, and some bad-ass leading lines.

The subject itself isn't that interesting on its own, but in the context of a cars thread, it's probably stronger than it would be elsewhere.

If I had to guess based on this one application of the word, I'd say it's a photo that looks nice *aesthetically* without having much actual content or interest, or having anything truly meaningful to say?

here are my pointers, take from them what you will:

as a rule of thumb, I always use iso 100 for pans, as well as at least using a polariser

f/16-19 is the furthest I'll stop down for pans, diffraction and sensor dirt starts to look really ugly if you stop down as far as f/32

Man, I was going off by the colour of the cloud, and figured he was shooting near wide open and his sensor was dirty as fuck.

Bring a polarizer or ND if you're going to be shooting in such sunny conditions. It helps with the pans a lot.

Good composition. and lighting on the car/track here. I think the sky could be less clipped and brought down a bit though. Some spots on the car are also slightly too bright on the matte paint.

You should try bring down the contrast (and probably depth of field but that's likely too late now) further away from the subject since half the shot is quite far away and half is right in your face. It doesn't lead you in as effectively imo

The trick to getting photos from outside the spectator area? Ask if you can go out to the corner stations! It also helps if you don't look and act like a bumbling fuck with a point and shit, but I suspect most people wouldn't care anyways.
