hey /p/ i'm not a casual here but I do want to get into photography. I need a camera though, an iphone can only do so much, the battery life is she, and they break easy while backpacking.

I need a good camera for backpacking, I just need a camera that is cheap, takes good pictures and would be lightweight for backpacking.

I'm not a photographer, i'm an outdoorsman, so please hold back the bantz.

Seeing that you didn't give us a price range, I'm going to say the Canon 1Dx Mark II is best for you. :^)

If backpacking is your priority, not the photography, perhaps not a DSLR.

Bracing for hate, but a Lumix or Cybershot would be fine, and you can find them anywhere.

Just don't fall for one of those "tough" meme cameras.

aston kutcher said they were good.

I second this, anything else won't get you good photos.

But for real, get yourself a cheap point and shoot with manual settings. They're honestly really good nowadays, and I've been tempted to get myself one even though I own a full-frame dSLR.

pretty much what they are saying, + you should learn the very basics of photography and get a compact cam with manual controls that shoots raw. Once there you can pack a small tripod (gorillapod, etc.) next to your cam and trusty mora and take kick ass wide angle long exposure shots of whatever stunning beauty happens to surround you. In that case low light capability won't even be an issue.

i've got time to save for one, but i just bought a new car and moved to a new country, so I'm not really in the economic situation to shell out cash for a non essential item like such, I like the lumix though, probably something similar is what i'd go with.

thank you for the input
