Gonna take it to a garden next week with some Velvia and see what the Rockwell slide hype is all about.

Domke f2 and a sekonic l-308s light meter.

Ebay same stuff for 30 euro.
Peak design even tried to sue the company for copy right shit...
But failed hard because the other company was actually first making these clips .
Hehehe
>>
>>2801238
Which is the other company?
>>
>>2801218

Why not the 10-18?
>>
>>2801264
The only real advantage of the 10-18 is it's like 70% of the performance for much cheaper. The 10-22mm is pretty much a much better lens in every other significant way.

How is it better? Most reviews and comparisons I read rated the 10-18 as sharper at least.
>>
Camera bag and a set of macro, cpl and nd filters to get started with them.

Macro are just for the fun, nd filters are the ones I was really interested in. Cpl, meh, it came with it so what the hell. Maybe it'll come handy to avoid glass reflections at zoos or shooting the inside of stores from the window.

The bag ssimply was a must have to carry everyday stuff and the camera.

Next month will come the tele lens. 55-200 vr because poorfag.

how much people here use dwanes? what are the advantages?

i mean other than the fact theyre the last people who could process a discontinued film why would someone want to get their film developed by dwanes rather than their local lab or doing it themselves?
>>
Film. A national park permit. Fuel for road trips.
>>
>>2801361
Not Murrican, so can't speak from direct experience, but I'd imagine that their position as an established mail-in pro lab in a populous country probably gives some assurances as to the quality of their service.
That could come down to the speed of turnaround, the likelihood that they have best practice procedures in place for handling and organising orders, the likelihood that their processing is going to be on the highest quality equipment, with name brand chemicals, and the strictest QC and consistency of results.

If you were a pro still shooting film, I think clients would expect you to justify using anyone else.

It's like going to the Kaaba, it needs to be done once in your life if you are a film photographer.

You should really see if they can do a cross process of Kodachrome 64 to b&w.
>>
>>2801238
Seed alright for the price. Ive got plenty of extra cash for fun stuff like this. The clip is built well and took a beating today when i fell down a small cliff face. Tumbled and rolled on my camera (6d with a 16-35Lii) and it stayed tight on my backpack strap. No complaints and comfy to wear. Bought at my local camera store where everything is overpriced anyways. I didnt want to wait for shipping for it or a knockoff. Money well spent in my opinion

I think most people mix them into salads.

I sometimes do that but more often add them to the mush I take into work to microwave along with the aubergine and .... oh I forgot to mention peppers. I bought peppers as well. And I just bought apples, bananas and pears since that last post.

So you're a poorfag gearfag.

Gear is gear. Doesn't matter if you're wanking over $4 goodwill compacts, $4000 flagship bodies, pieces of colored glass, bags, cleaning swabs or whatever. Being cheap doesn't magically make it not gear nor does it make you any less of a gearfag, just a gearfag who feels superior to other gearfags because you buy cheap shit instead of because you buy expensive shit.

After filing a 135 back for the Mamiya, I don't think I can justify the price of the 135w just for ease of use though.

Bought an OM-Zuiko 35mm 2.8 to match my 21mm and my 50mm when i work on films. Love the 50 and 21 (the 21, especially, is one of my favorite lenses) so, I imagine the 35 is also swell. You don't like any of the 28mm or 35mm?
>>
>>2802287
Well everything I'm going to say is subjective but just consider what youll be mainly shooting. I picked the 24-35mm, despite the 11mm difference, because I enjoy shooting with my X100T at f2 - enough to sacrifice shooting up to 70mm. 24 for those big wide shots, 35 in case a person is involved. I dont believe 24mm is good enough for someones profile, even with crop; and I didn't want to carry two lenses - so I opted out of those primes. If I really wanted a nice portrait shots I would just use the 50mm or 85mm prime; on the other end if I really wanted nice events shots I would buy the 24mm.

Read up on Shotkit for some insight on why some photographer prefer a certain focal length on their niche.

No I'm just not sure what I want. I already have a 14-24 and a 50 but sometimes the 24 is too wide and the 50 is too long. Stepping forward or back isn't always an option either. I have heard great things about the 28 1.8 optically but am a bit concerned with the build quality.

Yeah I thought it would make a nice walk around lens. And a great compromise between zooming flexibility and optical quality. If I had that and pocketed a small 50 I would be in good shape probably; but I wasn't sure how the 24-35 faired in reviews yet.

You've started all wrong, Nikon are dog turd. You'll only realise when you're too far in, and spent too much on shitty Nikon optics to turn around and choose again.

>>

Seriously tho, Nikon have made zero good optics in over 15 years. Even Tamron are groundbreaking compared to Nikon.

Not too late, cancel that order.
>>
>>2803261
Can any other anons weigh in on this? When I was researching beginner cameras 5+ sites said that nikon d3300 was a great choice.

I really don't plan on going pro, it can't be that bad can it? If it is what would you recommend around the 500 dollar range instead?
>>
>>2803270
That guy is a fucking idiot. Seriously. That camera and Nikon's lenses will serve you just fine.
>>
>>2803273
I thought so, thank you for the input
>>
>>2803256
The UV filter is garbage. The most usable is the circular polarizer, the ND2 might work in some lower lighting settings, but to make a dramatic sky with blurred clouds or smooth water surface you will need at least ND6 with around 2 minutes of exposure.
>>
>>2803279
Depending on your usage there is only one other serious contender with the Pentax K-50, but its strengths come out when you want to use it a lot outdoors in not so ideal weather or worse.
For generic shooting everything the D3300 will serve you well.

Poundland sell C41, 135x24 for £1 in the UK. I only popped online because my local store was out of stock, but they started selling online last year. If it's out of stock, just check back every few days.

>>
>>2803270

D3300 are nice, but with a little more you could afford a D5200 and it would be nicer, tho

D3300 + 35mm dx + 50mm G and you will be fine and will be taking better pictures than those guys who don't even know what optics is.
>>
>>2803189
You don't have to worry about anything 24mm or wider, you're covered. You'll be better off with a 24-70mm. If you have a good reason not to go for that then you really should find something between 24mm and 50mm. Leave the 12-24mm for all your wide shots, usually with a tripod. You need something to go along with your 50mm and a 28mm might be just the thing. You could get a 35mm if you want to stick with just one lens instead of the 28mm and 50mm. Try out all your options before you buy.

nice. D700 is one of the best cameras ever made!
>>
>>2802898
Yeah, as in movies. I like their look. I shoot mostly in black and white, but i do like their color quite a bit. People say they 'lack character.' I think that can;t be further frolm the truth. The images are plainly stated but the detail and contrast is nice, especially for the price. I started out using the 21mm just because its one of the first lenses I got and I have gotten really accustom to it. The zuiko's are part of how I get my 'look' so to speak and, for cinema, its better to have a set that goes together than a random selection of different lenses at random focal lengths.

As for follow focus, I have had the opposite experience. It works just fine for me. Most of my shots are stable tripod shots anyway. Its not the gear, necessarily, but what you make of it. I would love to have a number of other prime lenses to pick from but, for now, the G.Zuikos seemed to be my best bet and I've come to really like them. I use them for mostly documentary but they work nicely for narrative films too. They have this kind of 'art-filmy' look about them I like. A lot of filmmakers have come into their own by creatively using whatever was at their disposal at the time. One day, I'll be using a set of some crazy expensive lenses, but, for now, I'm perfectly happy with the Zuikos.

Just tested out the 35 today alongside the 50 and 21 and they all match up pretty well. Gonna start a documentary project in the next few days so I'm anxious to bust them out.
>>
>>2803689

As an ex Nikon photographer I can confirm that this is sexy as fuck.
>>
>>2803692
If you don't need the 18mm to be a pancake it may be cheaper and better for you to by the 18-55 f2.8-4.
Optically it's better than the 18mm which is probably the worst XF lens produced so far.
f2-f2.8 isn't that huge when you consider the IS that you gain.
>>
>>2803751
I was thinking that and had a look at the prices the cheapest I could find the 18-55 was £230 used or the 18mm new for 230. I just read today, they are working on a 23mm RW I think I will hold off on the mid range and just get the wide and the 35 for now.
Thanks for the advise doe anon!

Why? The iso on the 7D is not much better than the 40D and the dynamic range on both is shit.

A real upgrade would be full frame or nikon/fuji/sony APSC.

Canon sensor tec is stale as fuck and I've saying that as someone with a 50D 7DII and 5Diii
>>
>>2803918
>7D
pls don't, cropped sensors canon are shit, pick a 5D Mk II or even an old 5D.
>>
I was going to upgrade from my old 1D Mk II to a 7D. Has it really aged that badly?
>>
>>2804215
IMO, the only old canon that's still worth it is a 5D MK II, but I guess the price is closer to a 6D, depends where you live.
>>
>>2804220
Well I already have a 6D and wanted something with a crop sensor and good burst to use as my tele body when shooting press stuff. The 1D works well but weighs a tonne and the high ISO performance is non existent
>>
>>2804211
what if some people just prefer crop cause they are lighter, have a tighter FOV, can use crop lenses and make full frame lenses not vignette like a motherfucker?
>>
>>2804222
Oh... so if you just take photos in daylight with the tele, 7D will do just fine.
>>
>>2804193
>>2804211
Really? I wanted to try my friends 7D but every time I had the chance I was drunk so I preferred not to put anything expensive on my hands that wasn't mine.

To be honest I do not have the slightest issue with my 40D. If anything, the fact that I can't really go past ISO 400 withouth preparing my mind to do some PS magic to remove the noise (or just VSCO the shit out of the photos because noise anyway lmao).
Also 10.1MP is not a lot to play with but I can live with that since I never print, all I do is digital.

Most of what I do is either studio stuff (fashion/portraits/products) or architectural/real estate so I was a little hesitant to change to FF.
It sounds stupid not wanting to go FF doing what I do, but if I want to keep doing all of that after switching I would have to sell my 40D, all my EF-S glass: My EF-S 55-250, my EF-S 10-18 and my 50 1.8, and buy their full frame equivalents (70-200 f4, 17-40 I guess, and 85 1.2) which are much more expensive.

If I ever start making money with this then yeah, I will probs get a 5D3 or even a 5Ds and get some EF L glass but as a hobby right now I think my setup works just fine, again, my only complaints are 40D's high ISO performance and that I only have 10MP with it.

I though about selling my beloved 40D and getting a 50D so that I can keep both my EF-S glass and all my 40D batteries and grip since they work with the 50D too, and that way I would get 15MP and a slight improvement on high ISO.

I don't know. At the moment I'm just happpy I sold that shitty 28-80 for more than what I got it for.
>>
>>2804264
just buy a 650D
>>
>>2804266
>650D
I can't stand DSLR cameras without top LCD, I use it all the time.
Also I guess the viewfinder is ultra tiny. The one in the 40D feels tiny already compared to my old EOS film cameras. And I have very big hands and tiny cameras don't feel very good on my hands.
>>
>>2804271
the 5d2/3 has a tiny viewfinder compared to my AE1 but that never detered anyone from shooting good pictures

Looking at the top lcd takes about the same time as looking at the lcd and you can buy a 20 dollar battery grip if it is too small

considering your needs getting a newer sensor 3 digit rebel which supports for your ef-s glass just seemed a better idea than buying another 50D which is 2 whooping generations behind
>>
>>2804281
Fuck it I think I'm good with gear for now.

I'll keep the 40D and just wait until I have an actual issue with it. Again the resolution is not the end of the world and I don't do much high ISO stuff anyway...

Getting another camera would be GAS at this moment I think, and we all hate gearfaggotry don't we?

Anyone here decent with fomapan? I've used it before but recently switched to Delta and... well... Delta does what it's told. Foma seems incredibly inconsistent and temperamental.

It's sheet film. Mostly Foma 100. I shoot it at 50ISO, expose for shadows, agitate in deep tanks for 15s per minute and add an extra minute to whatever the appropriate time:temp reading is. Normally they're at least ok, but is there a better developer? Better technique to use?

On another note, is this ADOX 20 stuff as ridiculously high quality as they claim? The whole "mega-megapickels" schtick they're claiming?

I use HC-110 and it's so convenient that I don't feel like trying anything else. Isn't HP5 traditional grain anyway, why would it require T-Max developer? I even do Fuji Acros in HC-110 despite it being T-grain and it turns out fine, HP5 is the only film that hasn't behaved properly.

I developed fomapan 100 for the first time yesterday and used 25% xtol for 10 minutes as per the massive dev chart and they came out seriously underdeveloped
>>
>>2806300
sounds about right. I only know so much but as a general rule
- the ISO is half what is on the box
- it needs aggressive agitation (I practically shake the stuff in dev tanks)
- it needs longer development
i think the MDC takes its pointers from the official dev times and FOMA are lying bastards

fwiw my usual setup is stock ID-11. If the dev time is 7min I push it to 8-8:30 and agitate for an extra 5s per minute. They usually come out a lot denser then, but the downside is the lovely midtones foma has can sometimes get lost.

don't have any scans of the stuff on my laptop but it's worth finding out "your method" and then sticking with it. it can be good film

Tmax Dev doesn't really have much to do with the films of the same name, it's pretty strange.
Although I have souped some TMY in it, and it was fine.
The flipside is that I really don't like its results with finer grained films.
Makes Retro 80s look like garbage. But I use it with Tri-X and HP5 quite happily.

Mostly landscape photography and portraits. For super macro images and zoom I've got a Fujifilm S4400, which has a shitty sensor but 28x zoom and a minimum object distance to the lens of <2 cm.

Everything in between will hopefully be the perfect realm of the DP2.
>>
>>2809657
Very cool. I wish they were a little easier to use, and a little better in poor light. I'd love to have one, for the image quality they're capable of, but I know that I would be turned off by the hurdles and wouldn't use it correctly. I don't like shooting slowly like they require.

The tank with the adjustable limiter ring? How is the AF speed with judicious use of the limiter ring? I know AF speed is practically glacial without it, but is it fast if you get handy at "manually focusing" with the limiter ring?
>>
>>2809733

Nope. Bought this one from a used retailer.

>>2809739

Before I got in to these older lenses I was concerned about AF speeds too. Honestly though, they're not that bad. The 300 f4 is quite slow if you don't use the limiter and the lens happens to be way off focus to start, but I find it acceptable with the limiter turned on. It makes small focus adjustments quick enough.
>>
>>2809699
Same here, but I also have the 180 2.8

>>2809739
AF is technically slow, but since you got a ring that you can lock wherever you want instead of a stupid switch that just limits from 3 meters to infinity, for distant objects (15 or even 30 m to infinity) is damn fast as you'll basically never lose focus and pointlessly rotate the ring.

180 2.8 doesn't have the focus limiter, I miss it a bit but the 180 is on the fastish side; if handling the 300mm f/4 is like handling a behemoth, in all senses, the 180 is like a dragonfly: lightweight, fast, luminous (2/3 of tstop more luminous than the 80-200 2.8 at 180mm 2.8 actually, and better IQ).
Both the 300 and 180 have integrated hoods, which often Nikkors have. Wish every lens had it.

I'm already practicing with my S4400 by turning of image stabilization and choosing ISO 100 or ISO 64 whenever possible.

I kinda like the fixed focal length of the DP2 Merrill as it limits the field of view to about that of yourself. With a wide-range vario lens I'm often looking for objects very close by or very far away, but in the end I prefer "every-day" settings and images that capture the world as we see it.

I know this since I do a lot of drawing people in public transport. If i draw someone directly in front of me, it takes 0.2 secs for them to notice it. The trick is to draw someone not facing you, or absorbed in their book/celphone. I know people will notice i've taken a photo of them most of the time. thing is with a reflex you're pretty much forced to use the viewfinder and point a big ass object at the subject's face, and then they hear SHCLICK so they have a confirmation they've been shot. Pretty intimidating. with the GR I can adjust settings, raise the camera, take the shot and continue with my life in one fluid motion. It's way more acceptable in the metro, even more so since I try to be respectful of the people I photograph.

I ask if I need to take more than 1-2 photos to get the shot I want. Also I won't take photos of girls alone at night or in remote places, 'cause they're dealing with enough assholes already. Actually I don't shoot a lot of girls. They're rightfully paranoid in public places so it's not the best subject.

>with the GR I can adjust settings, raise the camera, take the shot and continue with my life in one fluid motion

You're just parroting shitty blog logic. It is the act of putting something in front of your face that attracts attention it doesn't matter whether that something is one of those piddley Sony things or a fuckhuge Canikon dinosaur or even if your hands are empty. It is the action not the object that attracts attention.

In fact people give fewer fucks about bigger cameras because at least you look pro-ish, and therefore less likely to give your snapshits away cheaply by plastering them all over facebook and flickr.

The idea of using small cameras for 'street' etc is a meme started by blogs in order to sell cameras to the hoardes of spineless hipsters and old geezers who are afraid of taking pictures in public because they are worried about what people might think of them
