Even if they are the one taking the shot, they could be using a timer, or remote shutter release, or doing something clever where it's far more oblique than a normal mirror selfie snapshit.

My point is that having unused equipment of any kind in your photo, especially with cameras, makes you look like a retard. It imitates famous soldier and aristocrat portraits of yore, where they port their trusty weapons and other martial bling. The problem is that it doesn't look respectable, interesting, clever, cool, badass, or anything of the like.

Can you imagine if someone replaced Albert Camus' in his Yousuf Karsh portrait with the books? Some random faggot leaning on books would not mean anything, and it would make them look like a try-hard, phony piece of shit.

Unless you're Ansel-fucking-Adams, you haven't earned the right to add retard accoutrements to your portraits. It gives the appearance that you're trying to convey your special snowflake-ness when there are millions of lowlifes equally skilled, with just as much renown.

You could be gutted by a thug on the street with a bowie knife and your parents probably wouldn't even cry, so why should we give a fuck whether you're so special as to own and [potentially] operate a medium format camera, or a large format camera, or whatever?

Almost every MF SLR looked like that or similar. The most common medium format frames were 6x4.5, 6x6 and 6x7 so it made sense for the cameras to be square or rectangular as well.

People are all over them. Medium format is still alive and kicking. Digital medium format exists as well, but it's for deep pockets only. The new Hasselblads run you well into 40-50 thousand
