Absolutely fine camera. You can take great pics with it. It's not anything professional, but more than adequate for a hobbyist.

I had a D5100 and I was great, sold it as it didn't have AF motor. And I'm not that rich to buy DX G primes
What do plan to shoot?, the kit lens is great for travel/street/landscape. Buy a tripod and shutter release.
