hey I wanna get a light meter but only have about 50 quid to spend on one, i need it for a few 35mm cameras i have that have no light meter built in or they have gone off as they where a passive design.

I'm thinking of getting a old sekonic but don't want to get one that will be dead on arrival.

anyone have any advice or personal experiences ?
>>
I also want a light meter.

I do not need one at all.

I think it would be useful even if you dont think you need one, dslr's arent always spot on with metering.
>>
>>2723497
I have the one in the OP's pic. It works for me. I use it with a Graflex, a Zenit, a SRT101 and Canon FTQL. I get pretty good results when I don't fuck it up.

Use your phone, there are hundreds of free lightmeter apps.
>>

Can you recommend one? When I was looking for one, every one I found had reviews stating that they weren't accurate.

bump

i have this one and im op not accurate at all and there was no way to set it up to be accurate.

all the photos on my dslr came out overblown to hell.
>>
>>2723817
It is meant for film, it handles overexposure much better than digital.
With film it is safer to overexpose, digital can retain more detail with underexposure.
Anyway, why would you use this for digital? DSLRs have their own metering. Are you retarded?
>>
>>2723818
He was probably testing it before he blew it on film.
Some phones are shit with light meter apps.
>>
>>2723819
>>2723818
yeah exactly what i was doing,

the app would be several stops outta whack though. suggesting a 1 second exposure for f1.8 kinda thing for what the camera would suggest 1/50
>>
>>2723823
Jeez that shit is far out
>>
>>2723823
Get a better phone.
>>
>>2723828
good one m8 its motorola moto g perfectly good phone just a shitty app.
>>
>>2723823
>>2723817
it might depend on what phone you have. On my gs5 it seems to be pretty accurate to what my dslr meters to.

Are you using the incident or reflected light mode? reflected gives better results when just pointing it at a scene, while incident is supposed to measure the light around your subject. At least that's how I think it works.

I use a Gossen Sixomat that I bought for 1 euro.

Tiny enough to carry around all day, absolutely hideous and extrmely precise, I have yet to get a wrong reading from it.
Can't recommend it enough since the value for money is unbeatable.
