But the whole event /is/ forced. There's not really such a thing as capturing a 'true sense' of getting married that isn't a contrivance.

Hey, I don't know if I'm posting at the right place, do ignore me if i do.
I'll be shooting at a friend's wedding in a few months, she doesn't have the money for a pro so I'm helping out. I don't plan on covering the full wedding as a pro, but more to get a few nice pictures of the moment.
Is there any big tips on shooting a wedding? I plan on taking my dslr but also my film camera with b/w film or maybe portra

Make sure everything is formatted and charged before the day. Backups are important

I mean if its a friend, you're not obliged to capture it like you were doing it for a customer. Just have fun, but let her enjoy herself, try not to be in her face. Also, get some family shots for her, 'cause they are always high up on the list.

Take a about 32/64gb of CF/SD and shoot away.

Only shoot important bits with DSLR, at least you have more control. Unless you're good in the darkroom. I shoot candid moments on a SLR with Delta 400. It's awesome to post clients a few prints as a gift after you hand them images.

A wedding is forced.
It's a carefully planned and rehearsed event.

If a wedding photograph looks spontaneous it's twisting reality.

That said go for it: make it look original and spontaneous if you manage to plan for that you're a better wedding photographer.

OK thanks for the advices, should be OK in term of battery and cards. I planned on shooting some color film during the day (church and diner) and a higher iso bw film for the evening.
I will stay on the dslr for the moments I can't miss, you're right.
