Yes, this is a true morel. If you found it near hardwoods, probably esculenta clade, if you found it near a burn, landscaping, or a conifer forest, it is probably elata clade. If if stains red (it looks like maybe it did on the stem) It is Morchella rufobrunnea. All edible.

To be able to confirm these yourself in the future, look and make sure that it has true "honeycombs" with crosswalls and doesn't have folds.
Then, slice it in half and ensure that it is all one hollow space, that there isn't any folded edge or other shit going on.
Even though I can confirm this ID for you, until you can tell pic related apart from yours, don't eat them.

Slice them in half and ensure the stalk in one large cavity. If so soak them in salt water for a couple hours them dry and coat with a little egg and flour. Then, pan fry and let me eat them.

Man, I can't wait until Friday; goin' on my yearly morel hunt here in NY. I I take 4 days off a year just for mushroom foraging..starting with morels :D...
Leave around 5am, get to my 1st spot around 630ish, & don't get home until after dark. It's a great day where I'm all by myself (& puppers), & it's always a great recharge, even if I don't get much (rare). Then I spend Saturday cooking, dehydrating, & preserving. I'll have my mom & uncle over early (& hopefully my grandfather, but he's getting up there), & my friends over later. My father-in-law sometimes joins us for dinner too.

The manliest morel mushroom meal made by man:

Need:
>manly sized chunk of dead animal
>iron (manly) frying pan big enough for meat
>mushrooms
>fire

Also some whisky, butter and seasonings. All the actual cooking should be done outside.

Season and sear the dead beast flesh in the pan(red meat. Still kicking less than an hour ago). Remove pan from fire. Remove meat from pan to a plate, save the juices.

Deglaze the pan with about a cup of whisky, pouring slowly into the pan. Add water to prevent burning. Add juices from dead animal.

Add about a stick of butter, simmer until thickened. Add morel, simmer to desired point, drizzle over dead animal.

Goes well with walnuts, roast root veg, asparagus, egg noodles if you have enough gravy...

Central Iowa here. My friends found some grey and yellow morels yesterday, and I'm taking off work early today to go hunt for them with my wife and kiddo.

Seriously though, I did see one that big about 10 years ago. I had never been morel hunting, and just thought it was a cool looking mushroom. Well, later *that very very day* my buddy says "let's go get morel mushrooms". Once I saw what one was, I told him I had seen one the size of a small football earlier that day. Never did go back and get it, but that was an amazing mushroom.
