If he is part chihuahua he will probably hate any kind of cold and be pretty intolerant to cold. My dog hardly will leave my porch if it's below freezing. He's not a chihuahua, he's a French bulldog, but that single layer short cost really isn't good for cold. A lot of dogs like yours with the lighter coat just so not tolerate any cold at all.

With him being so small, he's probably do fine sleeping in your sleeping bag, as long as he likes it.

my cousins puppers
the spaniel in the background is named Rita and was scared out of her mind by me ( and my dad) for no reason when we first met, like, not agressive, scared, whimpering and cowering. literally the first dog ive ever met who did not like me, she likes me now that we´ve gotten to know each other though, guess it just took her some time, she doesn't really like /out/ and is more of a couch potato/ tries to eat the couch (she´s not very smart honestly)

the husky in the foreground is Cuno, we instantly clicked and he followed me around all Christmas eve, it was my turn to dress as Santa so i snuck out the house in the costume to enter and give the kids presents, i was sort of worried as this was the first time i was meeting the dogs and how a pretty large wolf like husky would react to a masked "stranger" i couldn't tell, but i walked through the backyard gate, Cuno perked up, i looked at him, he looked at me, i said something along the lines of "dont give up my disguise bud" and he lay down again, and i gave the kiddo presents and went out again.

ive since taken both the dogs on many walks, Rita still doesn't give a shit but she gets visibly jealous that she cant run as fast as Cuno, its hilarious, ive slowly warmed my cousin up to the idea of me taking Cuno on overnight trips, hope she lets me, would be great to show that doggo real /out/

Hes a Chihuahua. He is hard as fuck. Ripped as hell and runs like 25 mph somehow. This little fucker would fight off a burglar better than my German Shepherd.

A few years ago I had my dog at Bass Pro Shops, it was some kinda dog event, was bored and took him, saw all kinds of cool dogs. This one little girl, maybe 5 years old was petting my dog, he's an absolute sweetheart with kids, and she asks "but why is he so sad?"... maybe the cutest question ever. I had to explain that he's actually happy, just sometimes bulldogs just look sad.

Dude, he might not be good for winter camping. I've got a Chihuahua/Jack Russel who fucking LOVES going camping/hiking with me...even in shit terrain, but I had to cut my winter camping trip short after a 4 hour drive to Algonquin because it was obvious she wasn't going to make it before I even got a quarter way to where I usually like to set up. She tried, & I'm sure she would have gave it her all to push through, but it was going to do her harm.

My advice would be to do a test run someplace close before you commit to a drive & full gear loadout; these little pups don't seem built for snow & cold.

I have a black lab, normally I prefer setters but I wanted to try a retriever, she's a good pupper.

What's the best /out/ breed. My mastiff just died and I want to get a hiker for my next one. Worried about ticks and stank. Also no leg problems.

the best winter gear you can get for a chihuahua mix is a dog sitter. They like goofing around in the snow for maybe an hour, then they're gonna get cold and want to go inside. I've had to hike my dog out in my coat before when she got too cold and tired to move. She had a coat, but she's only a few inches off the ground so the snow soaks her.

I enjoy taking her on hikes in the other seasons and she's good for 15 miles at a time, but Chihuahuas are 3-season dogs.

Recently got a white Lab mix mutt. Couple years old. Full of energy and of course likes to go outside.

Any advice on how to get my dog leash trained and stop barking at people walking by in a timely manner. I would like to take him with me hiking as the nicer weather is already here.

Currently in MA, would head up to NH or ME.

This is my hiking buddy. I don't know about dog clothes for warmth as he's very active when we're out which seems to keep him warm enough. At night however he forces his way into my sleeping bag so I use a blanket instead now, the amount of heat he generates under the blanket is insane.
