Classical "vintage" rope might be ok for anything which does not require the dissipation fo sudden forces, like a fall.
If you use a non elastic climbing rope and you fall, the force is instantaneously propagated through the harness (and it might break) and your pelvis, causing fractures and inner organ damage.

don't fall onto a static rope are you going to be using vintage gear as well? sorry but this is all sounding like a broken back to me

I would say atleast 10mm. Just remember to give a soft catch via hip belay, shit's pretty chill honestly, I've caught a whipper bare handed before, but it was a dynamic 10mm, so I didn't have to let it slide
