Hello /out/, I'd like to go on some Scandinavian trails this summer.
I have done some easy-medium trails in the past (more than 4 years ago) but I'd like to get active again. I live in Denmark, so anything in Norway and Sweden sounds interesting.
My dream goal would be Kungsleden, at least the northern part of it, somewhere in August-September. Is that too ambitious for a beginner?
I'd also like recommendations for how to train- currently I don't walk a lot, but I do bike around 15 kms/day, and I have picked up a more active job to get my body used to a higher activity level. Is walking enough, or should I also incorporate jogging/cardio/strength? (btw I'm 23/f)
tl;dr recommend Scandinavian trails and how to train for them. Tak

Kungsleden js pretty easy. You could do the part between Abisko and Nikkaluotka. 110km. 4-5 days if you take it easy.

Sounds good! Do you know if I can go without booking one of those 'self-tours' where they charge you 500eur for shelter/making sure you arrive at the end? I was planning to go with my tent.

Yes, no worries. There are serviced huts every 20km and it's pretty tame. I've done it in a tent a couple of times. Pic related.

Gorgeous. During which month did you go?

Do you think early September would start getting chilly? Just so I know what kind of sleeping bag to get. Currently I have one that's good up to 6°C or so.
Any other tips you would like to share about the journey are welcome.
I've been in Abisko/Narvik one winter photographing mostly. But I stayed in the Tourist station and couldn't go on long trips during the day because of heavy gear.

It can snow there in August in the higher parts and it can get to freezing at night.
So, bring a warm bag.

Ok. Will do.
And... about the Northern Lights... I suppose they're kind of hit and miss in August?

Didn't see any. It doesn't get dark enough in summer. You need to go in the winter for that.
Have fun!
I did a part of Kungsleden a few years ago in the scouts, Tärnaby to Hemavan. I really recommend it, it is not a very tough trail.

You want a bag with at least 0c comfort temperature. And 6-7 days is more reasonable if you don't want to stress.
>110km. 4-5 days if you take it easy.
+20km a day for a beginner isn't taking it easy.

Load up a backpack 10-15kilo and walk up and stairs, don't run with backpack. Squats and other things for stronger legs, core and back.

Do you think 2-3 months of this kind of training is enough? Going from a mostly sedentary level...

6-7 days sounds better. Wouldn't mind 8 if I go at a slower pace, I'd like to take photographs on the way. Apart from needing more food, are there other disadvantages of going at a slow pace?
>>991595
Only disadvantage I can think of is if the weather is bad the whole time, which it usually isn't.
2-3 extra days of food doesn't weigh that much and you can usually buy some things in the huts.
Shorter days reduce the risk of blisters and other injuries. You don't have the same pressure of having to walk a certain distance every day or else you might miss the train.
pic related is the distances between the huts.

Yes, you don't have to be superman. It's more endurance and having a strong willpower and just keep walking when you're tired, but that shouldn't be an issue if you keep the daily distances short.
Are there any predators on that trail?
